Re-painting already spray painted soft doors

I have been looking for used soft doors to seal the front of my Jeep up in the mornings during summertime (I wake up real early to surf) and then stash behind the seats during the day when the sun is out. Picked up a pair of full soft doors for my TJ off Craigslist for 60 bucks. They are tan doors that the previous owner had spray painted black. They look fine, but I can tell the paint is going to scratch off over time. It is already scratched in a few places, especially the steel handle.

Id like to to use upholstery paint or soft top dye like I have read about in other threads, but am kind of iffy about coating over the spray paint if it is scratching off. Any idea how I should go about it? Sand it lightly, or will that damage the fabric too bad? Paint thinner to strip the paint, or will that cause the same problem? Paint over it in multiple light coats and hope that seals what is underneath?

Just keep patching them when they start to look bad. Only 60 bucks? Great price!

Thanks for the advice. I was just about to throw in the towel on craigslist and buy from quadratech when i randomly decided to search tj parts instead and sure enough, there they were.
