Quick (possibly dumb) JK grill paint question.

The grill on my JK is pretty scratched up and i want to paint it with a rattle can textured bed liner ( leaning towards rustolem bedliner in a can, unless i get recomendations for better). do i need to sand the grill before I paint it or is a good denatured alchol cleaning good?

A very good scuffing with 180 grit or coarser is needed for good adheasion.
