I've posted these pics on a few other threads, so forgive me if you've seen them, but here's my YJ grill. I obviously took it off to paint it. I love the results, and it still looks great after bout 1 year.

the main reason I took it off was the surface rust. It only took maybe 1 to 1.5 hours to take it off (if that) I spent ALOT of time on prep/priming/painting/bedlining. but it came out good I think

I did it with rustoleum flat black. Very easy to mask around hood and fenders. just pull out headlight bezels and tuck some paper in the whole over the lamps. I also painted those chrome bezels, but need to redo them as the paint has started to chip and flake off the chrome. this time i will sand them first. It has held up pretty good though as i did it like 1.5 years ago.

Here's a couple pics of mine. I used the Duplicolor bedliner in a spray can.

I left the grill on and just masked everything off really well.

I painted my grill with Rustoleum Bed Liner and left the grill on jeep. Turned out looking so good I'm in the process of painting the whole jeep, my paint sucked. Check out my build thread for more pictures and info.

Just finished the tailgate last week

I used rustoleum bed liner on mine. I don't have a close up picture. But it has one hell of a nice texture to it. And pretty durable.

just did my TJ grill and fenders... both were stone/ gravel chipped bad from dirt roads and it was towed by its previous owner...

i am very impressed with the rustoleum bed liner in a rattle can... i am going to do my Trail gear sliders and bumpers which have crappy powder coating... also i am going to do my flares... i read up that some one else used this on their stock flares so i am going to give it a go...

pics to come

I'm so glad you posted this! I have a Steel Blue TJ and I want to do this EXACT mod, but I really wondered how it would look on mine. Thanks! I think that is the project for this month!

I am also interested in what your prep was. Did you sand down the red paint before you painted over the grill?
