my 30 dollar paint job

just finished painting.

6 cans of rustoleum gloss orange

1 roll of automotive masking tape

bunch of free newspaper

it came out pretty good. it looks alot better in the pics than real life, but im still very very pleased with the results.

my jeep was born in feburary 2009, and up until now it was just rustoleum tough enamel black sprayed over por-15. i touched it up once a month, usually adding a new coat on the body.

i wanted a change, and it was either orange or tan.

after debating it, listening to some yj section advice, and talking to the wife... orange it is.

heres how i did it.

1. did a quick wash job. its 39 degrees here and raining. yes, i washed it in the rain. then backed it right into the garage, and let it dry all day.

2. taped off everything i didnt want to be orange

3. started spraying. i learned quick that it takes a super thin coat to start out, then you can get increasingly thicker as you go.

thats pretty much it.

heres the pics.

Whoooo weee. I thought it was just a joke about the safety orange when you posted it. Doesnt look to bad, I might have pulled the mirrors off the doors and the rubber off the tail gate....but it looks pretty darn good. Props to you

lol yep. its actually a shade darker than true day glow orange. its between dayglow and pumpkin orange.

i taped off alot of stuff, youll see when i update with the "no tape plus flares" pics.

i ran out of tape so i didnt tape off the tailgate hinge, tailgate rubber, or hood vent.
i will be spraying those black sometime soon.

i cant wait to get the fenders back on and see it out in the sun..

my neighbor came by to see what i was doing and was officially the first person to as "so are you gonna spray teh dukes of hazard number on the door?"

the other thread was the "what color should i pick" thread.

this is the "i painted my heep" thread, so i put it in the paint section.

i feel like sometimes i never leave the yj section and i really gotta start getting out to see the rest of the world lol

no sanding at all.

im lazy.

heres the finished job. it is a little thin in places, and another coat would do it some good, but i had to stick to six cans.

im happy with it.

yeah i fixed the overspray issue lol. i didnt notice it at all until i pulled it out.

the newspaper fell off last night and i didnt notice. i think i was high on paint fumes.

luckily it just got on the tread of the tire and not on the rims.
