CJ7 patch panel ?

After doing a little searching it appeared that pretty much all the patch panels out there have issues, either not fitting correctly, too thin, etc. So I called up Quadratec and they told me the ones I would be ordering were 16ga, which I found to be suprising, but the guy looked em up by part # and swore thats how thick they are, we'll see when they get here... so on to my ? I'm gonna be replacing pretty much the whole drivers side of the tub, not due to rust but due to body damage that was fixed with bondo. What are the tips and tricks for this? I've done a fair amount of patch work on a CJ2A, so I know the basics, I'm mainly looking for "If I was to do it again I would do this...." kinda info or labor/time saving ideas.

what does everyone do to combat the rust that forms along the seam of these two pieces of sheet metal on the front fenders? I'm thinking of welding the seam or using seam sealer on it after I have them blasted. but I'm thinking the rust is still gonna come back

got my patch panels in today, one was bent during shipping and the other was in the wrong box and the wrong side. I had my doubts when the salesman said they were 16ga, these things are paper thin! They are shipping me replacements at no cost to me, but I'm still not happy about how thin they are.
