is it alright to paint a vehicle with engine enamel?

i want to paint my jeep the grabber green that duplicolor's engine enamel is. but the thing is, that engine enamel is the only real lime green that i can get. i'm wondering if it will bond to the body, and last. should i prime first, or not? i'm planning on sanding everything down first, and maybe bondoing out minor imperfections. just wondering if its recamended......

well since i do have a paint shop in town, i could always ask them to mix me a batch. probly cost me the same as buying lots of spray cans. plus one of my friends has a paint booth at their farm, so we could use that. not looking for great quality, just a nice matte lime green. we could just use rustoleum light grey primer first, then go over it with the green. i think thats what i'll do. thanks!

check ebay for trinity 1945 paint they will have the green you want. a gallon for 40$ whole paint kit for 70ish i think but this is a gloss I used some black duplicolor engine paint on a bumper and the sun faded it in a few days to a grey youll need somthing with a uv protection . if you have it mixed some where it will cost 100 and up for a custom mix in single stage at least from what ive checked out in looking at getting a color mixed. and if your painting over any bare metal youll need a sealer... some sort of epoxy primer. but if your going over paint the rustoleum should be ok.

alright, i think i'm going with your guys suggestions. its nicely priced, comes with what i need, and shipping is only $19. how much do you think i would need for just a single stage? if i need help painting, my friends dad used to paint cars, and now paints restored tractors at their farm...

On an XJ you'll likely use most of the kit. With single stage urethane in this kit you end up with about 1.3 gallons of sprayable material, and that should be more than enough for three coats of color.
