Advice on hardtop vents

I am a new jeep owner. I have a 2003 TJ and it came with a hardtop but the top needs a little TLC. It is missing the rear exterior vents (exhauster vents I believe) and I'm not sure if this is even the correct top. I have seen some '03's with no vents on their tops, so I was wondering if it would be ok to fill the gaps in before I resurface it or if that will cause some problems with wind resistance or gas mileage. I am trying to avoid the expense of replacement vents. Any advice? Thanks in advance.

If i remember right..those vents were the cabin pressure vents. They have been relocated to the tailgate on the KJs now. Without them your ears could pressure when shutting doors or run your blowers.

Ok thank you sir. Any idea on the other '03 TJ's I see with ventless tops? Are they just dealing with the pressure I guess? Someone also mentioned it might blow the back glass out. Have you heard if this?

Thanks for the help. I did some research and found my vents are in my tailgate (2003). Apparently my hardtop is from 2002 and earlier.

No problem i believe you are right. 03 was the change. To verify just look behind your spare tire carrier. Should be a roughly 5x5 vented insert snapped in the tailgate. If so then you should have no problem closing the vents on your top.
