Price: $1.00
Pros: Easy to work on
Cons: Does not handle hard driving behind a V8
Recommended? No

Comments: Broke 2 times. Once behind a 327 in my first Jeep and now behind a 304 in my second Jeep. Input shafts broke both times. Also they like to lock up in 3rd or 4th gears. Going with a SM465.

Pros: Seems tough behind my 304 for aluminum intake 4 barrel carb and headers. No issues doing 60 mph on the highway.
Cons: Wish 1st gear was lower in range.
Recommended? Yes

Comments: It came with my jeep mated top a 304. I just got it on the road and have trail tested it a bit. No issues yet.

Pros: 4 speed that mates to the AMC V8s
Cons: Shifter lock ring
Recommended? Yes

Comments: I think I have the solution for the lock ring around the shifter stick. I've broken mine several times, and it was allways when shifting into reverse. I believe that the stick is hitting the lock ring and breaking the locking ear. Cause, either the opening for the stick is too small or the stick is bent, I suspect bent. Solution would be to grind the opening larger or bend the stick back. I think over time th stick has been thrown all the way too the right gate with force and caused the stick the bend slightly just above the pivot point.

What do you think?

Pros: Thoroughbred transmission. Upgraded gears to T-178.
Cons: Can't check gear fluid lecel without opening fill port, but she doesn't really leak either.
Recommended? Yes

Comments: T-178 Came installed on Jeep. Great transmission and easy to work with. Replaced gaskets and fluid at 200K miles and still runs like a champ. Hope this information helps.

Comments: I ain't broke yet, but it ain't been beat on that much. The only beef I have with mine, is sometimes it doesn't want to go into gear easily. But, once you learn how to finess it, everything is fine.
