Price: $2,850.00 Pros: 3 speed with overdrive Cons: Not very tough, clunky, harsh shifts once in a while Recommended? No
Comments: I bought my TJ with 12k miles on it, and the transmission seemed fine at the time, but a year and a half later when it had 28k on it the thing started shifting funny when coming to a stop. (It would neutral from second then drop into first)
My dad has worked for Chrysler for going on 30 years, and is currently in the plant where this tranny is built. So I was able to talk directly with the engineers and guys at the plant to help figure out what was goin on.
Well after a dealer maintenance dept, and 2 tranny shops said the L/R clutch packs were goin out, I ended up replacing it for $2850!
Needless to say I was a bit upset.
I contacted Jeep customer service thru email and phone, and they said they couldn't help out at all.
Really Jeep? With that low of mileage, the thing shouldn't have even needed serviced yet by your standards. The least they could've done was chip in a bit.

Price: $100.00 Pros: Not much "get up and go" Cons: none Recommended? Yes
Comments: As I said, it doesn't have the proper requirements for passing other vehicles. It stands up to all towing requirements though.

Price: $20,000.00 Pros: Gives me more than one ratio between my engine and wheels. Cons: Doesn't have a Rubicrawler Recommended? Yes
Comments: Came with the Jeep. Pretty fond of it. I'd like a tranny temp gauge and cooler but all good things in time. For now I'm more than happy wheelin an automatic

Price: $0.50 Pros: Smooth shifts Cons: OD is needed alot on the highway and I only have 245s and 3.73 gears Recommended? Yes
Comments: This came in my Liberty, shifts smooth but 245/265s make the shift pints kind of odd and confusing.

Price: $15,000.00 Pros: It's an auto with OD Cons: OD is too tall, it's a clunky trans but it's not so bad Recommended? Yes
Comments: It's an okay transmission, if it wasn't a pain to swap in an AW4 or manual I would have done it already. Clunky and slow shifting with a stupid tall OD ratio.
I entered 15,000 for the price because that's how much I paid for my Jeep that it came in

Price: $16,500.00 Pros: Auto with overdrive Cons: overdrive a lil weak. Recommended? Yes
Comments: I purchased the jeep about 5 months ago. 3 days after i installed my 33's and the jeep still has 3.73 gearing. Up to about 50 the overdrive does fine with the 33's but on the express way i turn it off as it is a little annoying sometimes with hills and the cruise control on. All in all i recommend this tranny when you look, it is not the dog everyone says it is.

Price: $1,200.00 Pros: High overdrive ratio, smooth shifts Cons: Picky with its fluid, torque converter locks up too much Recommended? Yes
Comments: Many people hate this transmission, but I like it. The .69 OD ratio allows me to regear to really low gears and still turn a decent rpm on the highway. As far as reliability, my friend has one in his TJ with 180k with no problems.

Price: $1.00 Pros: It held up to the previous owner using it as a tow rig for 22ft boats in his yard for 5 years. Cons: It held the shift until you let up on the gas or gambled on the high RPMs on the motor. Recommended? No
Comments: What more can I say? It didn't break down, but it wasn't awesome either. It was a very reliable weak transmission.

Price: $0.10 Pros: came with the jeep, good in stop an go traffic, don't have to shift while wheeling Cons: none Recommended? Yes
Comments: Don't have much to say about it. Gear shift cable came disconnected when the piece that holds it to the transmission broke. No idea why that happened. Otherwise it has been good.
