Comments: Just broke it, but that led to an upgrade with a beefed up kit. The t-5 has a reputation for being weak, and if it fails again I will probably upgrade to a T-18. However, the failure was due to the fact I was playing around on a hard surface, and with Detroit's and alloy axels, that can turn out bad, and it did! I have had no further problems since installing the upgraded gear kit.
Free with the jeep and had overdrive. Fine with the 258 or 4 cylinder?
Cons
Not capable of surviving a small block chevy and 33s. Wonder if it could last behind a stong I6

Comments: This transmission has disintegrated twice now. The last time I was simply motoring down the road in 5th @ 55 mph and it let go. If you have one and make any changes to the drivetrain that increases the load on this thing, get ready to rebuild or replace it.
