Price: $1.00 Pros: Stout, can be made to shift manually via aftermarket control modules, cheap to rebuild, made by Toyota. Cons: Tends to run hot, no shift kit available, Recommended? Yes
Comments: One of the best slushboxes on the road, the very best to come factory with a jeep save the last few years of wjs with the v8. Get a big cooler and a guage and it'll last you forever.

Price: $1,000.00 Pros: Electronically controlled. Cheap to replace from JY parts. Very strong, lasts a long time. Cons: 1-2 gear drive. No true first gear. Recommended? Yes
Comments: AW4's only come on the XJ/MJ models. I really like mine and have had good luck having them in all three of the XJ's I have owned. My first XJ, an 88 had 188k miles with no issues with the transmission. I know some people have to end up replacing or rebuilding theirs but I have had really good luck with them.

Price: $1.00 Pros: It is what came with the XJ Cons: It likes to run HOT! Need trans Cooler installed.
Not for V8 Swaps. or any high HP motors. Recommended? Yes
Comments: This is a good transmission for a stock and extreme modded XJ.. I would not suggest anyone swapping out to a V8... the clutch pack's will not hold up to the Extreme HP and TQ.

Aisan Chrysler AW4
Recommended? Yes
Comments: AW4 4 speed automatic - manufactured by Aisin-Warner - used '87-'92 with 2.5L I-4 and 4.0L I-6. The bellhousing pattern is different between the 4.0L I-6 and 2.5L I-4, but the 4.0L I-6 pattern is the same as AMC V8s (it is NOT the same as any Dodge originally designed engine)
