Pros: swapped mine for one with a SYE
Cons: no 4.0 range
Recommended? Yes

Comments: If I didn't have the SYE on mine, I'd possibly have upgraded by now. But for a stock Tcase, it does the job without complaint so far.

Pros: I heard it was strong.
Cons: It came with my stock 4 banger 3 speed auto SE TJ.
Recommended? Yes

Comments: It handled all I could give it from my tired 180K mile 4 banger that HAD 180 HP from the factory. It must have only had 80HP by the time I got my hands on it. I'm about to put rumor to the test. I've not got a 340 HP 5.7L Hemi going through a 45RFE 4 speed auto tranny to the NP231. I'll see how strong it really is.

Comments: It does what it needs to. It came stock on my YJ when I bought it. I may eventually replace it with something nicer, but for now, there is no need.

Price: $1,025.00
Pros: Heavy duty chain and gears All new parts
Cons: No "2 low" mode
Recommended? Yes

Comments: I decided to get a SYE to correct the slight vibes in my drive shaft since doing a 2" OME lift. But since the SYE kits by themself are upwards of $300, I figured what the heck, spend another $600 and get a heavy duty NP231 to boot.

Researching the various options, it looked to me like the JB Conversions HD NP231 with their super short SYE was the way to go. It's got a wider chain, a planetary gear with 6 helical gears instead of 3, and all the parts are brand new, not refurbs.

The folks at JBC are very professional and had the unit built and delivered within a few weeks. The unit was packaged very well for the several thousand mile freight trek from Louisiana to Washington State.

So far, no leaks or anything. It bolted right in, and worked from the get go. It came from the factory with the studs attached in a ziploc bag. The studs are kind of hard to install, but I guess they didn't want them poking holes through the shipping crate or getting bent in transit.

I will give the transfer case a 5 star rating unless something happens to it! I am planning to install a Super 35 30-spline rear axle with Detroit locker, and an upgraded front differential, so my Jeep can actually handle what this transfer case can dish out.

Price: $1.00
Pros: Its pretty sick and shifts really well, 4low sounds and feels great. Good to be able to switch into 2wd when you need it
Cons: No 4wd Fulltime so you absolutely can not use 4wd on dry paved surfaces, and unlike the QD in the new Jeep Grand Cherokees, it is hand shift and not electric shift... but hey, its a Jeep, make a sacrifice for many benefits
Recommended? Yes

Comments: I like it alot but I miss the 242 that I had in my ZJ because this one can only use 4wd as you need it and will not automatically kick in like the 4fulltime on the ZJ does. Oh well, its a Jeep
