Product Information

MSRP: $4,000.00
Average Price: $955.56
Manufacturer: ARB
Yes: 100 / No: 1

ARB has been challenging conventional thinking on off road equipment
designs for over 30 years, and the ARB Air Locker has been a success
from the very beginning. Created to provide 100% traction on demand,
without sacrificing any of your vehicle’s highway driving performance,
ARB Air Lockers employ a 12 volt air compressor designed to activate
(and deactivate) a solid and durable locking mechanism inside the
differential. This gives you the traction you need, when you need it, all
at the flick of a switch, all within the safety and comfort of the driver’s

The advantage of the ARB Air Locker lies in the pneumatically operated
locking system inside the differential. When activated, the Air Locker
prevents the differential gears from rotating and therefore prevents the
axle shafts from turning independently of each other. With both wheels
tied directly to the rotation of the ring gear the vehicle maintains
maximum possible traction at all times. When unlocked, it operates just
like conventional "open" differentials.

In addition to providing outright improvements to a 4x4’s off road
capabilities, the Air Locker offers significant environmental benefits.
When approaching difficult terrain, less reliance is put on momentum.
An Air Locker equipped truck can be driven in a slower, safer and more
controlled manner as a result of vastly improved traction. This style of
driving greatly reduces the likelihood of incurring vehicle damage and
lessens the environmental impact as well.

Pros: simple construction
Cons: requires maintenance
Recommended? Yes

Comments: A locker which I have used 9 years without any problems.
But proper maintenance is required. You have to change gear lube to prevent contamination. O-rings have to be changed- but are very cheap. If it is done periodically the locker is very reliable. Never had any problems with solenoids or air hose.

Pros: Lock in quicker than I thought they would
Cons: Have to wait on the compressor
Recommended? Yes

Comments: I've only had the chance to use them once since install. If it hadn't been for the ARB's I wouldn't have made a few of the trails. They operate smooth as silk.

ARB Air Locker
Price: $2,200.00
Recommended? Yes

Comments: ARB lockers in D30 and Currie 9 inch. Also have ARB high output compressor. ARBs work flawlessly. Compressor wiring harness makes installation a breeze. Not having lockers on street makes the Jeep ride/handle very nicely! $2200 for lockers, compressor and locker installation. Did the compressor install and ran the airlines to the lockers myself.

Comments: This is the only way to go with a DD. If you use your Jeep as a DD then its worth the extra money.

Comments: I didn't install them myself so no comment on that. I like the Idea of having an onboard air system. Then I carry a small CO2 boottle incase the pump fails.
