Product Information

MSRP: $4,000.00
Average Price: $964.73
Manufacturer: ARB
Yes: 102 / No: 1

ARB has been challenging conventional thinking on off road equipment
designs for over 30 years, and the ARB Air Locker has been a success
from the very beginning. Created to provide 100% traction on demand,
without sacrificing any of your vehicle’s highway driving performance,
ARB Air Lockers employ a 12 volt air compressor designed to activate
(and deactivate) a solid and durable locking mechanism inside the
differential. This gives you the traction you need, when you need it, all
at the flick of a switch, all within the safety and comfort of the driver’s

The advantage of the ARB Air Locker lies in the pneumatically operated
locking system inside the differential. When activated, the Air Locker
prevents the differential gears from rotating and therefore prevents the
axle shafts from turning independently of each other. With both wheels
tied directly to the rotation of the ring gear the vehicle maintains
maximum possible traction at all times. When unlocked, it operates just
like conventional "open" differentials.

In addition to providing outright improvements to a 4x4’s off road
capabilities, the Air Locker offers significant environmental benefits.
When approaching difficult terrain, less reliance is put on momentum.
An Air Locker equipped truck can be driven in a slower, safer and more
controlled manner as a result of vastly improved traction. This style of
driving greatly reduces the likelihood of incurring vehicle damage and
lessens the environmental impact as well.

Cons: $$$$$

Comments: Very expensive, but easy to use. The air compressor that is the CK model from ARB fills my tires up from 15lbs to 33 lbs of pressure in < 3 minutes. That on board air was worth it too.

Pros: It's a locker, and it's from ARB.
Cons: Price, installed by pro

Comments: A great way to go for a selectable locker. As a bonus you get OBA. If installed correctly, no leaks should ever happen.

Price: $800.00
Pros: Great reputation and service with parts availability
Cons: expensive and need an air source
Recommended? Yes

Comments: Just put these units on and am using a Power Tank to supply the solenoid manifold. It works great and is a big improvement over even the touted BLD system on the JK - lockup is solid. I wired mine so that I can lock front or rear independently, not what was recommended but I like it that way.

Price: $1,000.00
Pros: Smooth Operation
Cons: None if installed and used correctly
Recommended? Yes

Comments: The ARB lockers are absolutely perfect if you have the money and want a selectable locker. VERY reliable and EXTREMELY SMOOTH OPERATION!!!! Can be spinning and lock the air lockers in and there is no grinding or hesitation, goes from one well spinning to both spinning perfectly.

Just make sure you install it correctly! Change the gear oil regular and I would recommend the steel airline if you're in the brush

I have heard of relays going on the compressors but I haven't experienced that.

Wouldn't get any other lockers

I know of heavy equipment that comes from the factory with an ARB Front and Rear locker option so it obviously cant be bad

Price: $700.00
Pros: Quiet, 100% lock up, Open when not locked
Cons: Expensive, you have to buy the compressor to run it
Recommended? Yes

Comments: I love it. The fact that you have an open diff when you want and 100% lock up when you need it is crucial to Alaskan driving. You can't beat the ARB folks for service as well.
