Price: $130.00
Pros: strong. Everything lined up nicely. Fits as described
Cons: -All bolts and screws not provided!! Not a good alternative for a full skid, can still get snagged up on rocks.
Recommended? No

Comments: Pretty good skid, as far as oil pan skids are concerned.

My biggest issue is that not all the parts described in the instructions are actually provided. I ended up having to supplement with my own screws and bolts. Disappointing really, because teraflex is not a new company and should be organized enough.

Price: $125.00
Pros: Fit well, pre-finished
Cons: Exhaust manifold sometimes ratlles on it
Recommended? Yes

Comments: This is an inexpensive skid plate considering it portects one of the most vital systems on the Jeep. Install was easy, and the construction seems quality. Sometimes my exhaust manifold rattles on it, but that's not a huge concern.

Price: $40.00
Pros: Good cheap protection Will fit 4cyl motor with very light modification
Cons: For the price I can't find any Had to drill one additional hole for 4cyl jeep
Recommended? Yes

Comments: Got this 40.00 shipped when they went on sale. I have a 2.5l jeep and it says its only for the 4.0l jeeps. Turns out after adding one additional hole its a perfect fit for the 4cyl motor.

Price: $40.00
Pros: Solid piece of equipment easy install protection
Cons: Vibrates on the flywheel box and sounds awful, I cut a 1" piece of rubber tubing down the middle and placed it flat inbetween the skid plate and the oil pan, no more rattle
Recommended? Yes

Comments: Install was very simple, just two bolts. I like it, except that it rattles really bad. But a simple piece of rubber tubing fixed it. Got it on sale for $40. I recommend.

Price: $25.00
Pros: Easy Install
Cons: TeraFlex shipping fees
Recommended? No

Comments: TeraFlex offered this skidplate for $25 online. However they had a $16 shipping fee. I found it on EBay at the same price with no shipping fee.

The install was three bolts took me 5 minutes to install. Great so far.

Price: $45.45
Pros: Really inexpensive! 3/16" steel, very simple and practical design
Cons: For the price, none.
Recommended? Yes

Comments: Bought two of these on Ebay, and with combined shipping I paid $65.45 for the pair. This is so ridiculously inexpensive, it's not even funny.

On my 4.0, 5spd TJ, install time was 5 minutes. 2 lower trans bellhousing bolts and 1 dust shield screw, and it's in. Leaves ample room for an oil change. No, it's not going to protect the Jeep from a 2 story free-fall, but it will stop anything that tries to get in my oil pan.

Pros: Solid built, pretty straightforward install (but caveats exist)
Cons: Lousy customer service.

Comments: They have changed the look of this skid plate compared to what is shown above. It more resembles the nth Degree/AEV model

I have a 98 TJ 4.0L and found that the driver side engine mount hole had no thread, but looked like it should be the larger bolt which they mention may be needed. I emailed the company for some guidance on whether I should have to tap it or not. It has been two weeks and have received no response. I went ahead and tapped the hole and looks like it did the job.

At the same time there is a washer that is supposed to go between the back of the skid plate and the bell housing. This washer is used to stop the skid plate from pushing the inspection plate on the bell housing into the flywheel . Since they only provide one washer that is big enough for the bolts, I had to go out and buy another one to balance it out since there are two bolts involved. I also asked about this and received no response.

Instructions are relatively thorough however it leaves a lot of questions especially if you experience what I did. Like why is there only one washer? Is it enough? Is the washer required if you have larger bolts which I did. (The variances in bolt size between early and late model TJs is uber stupid but I digress)

BTW, this is the 2nd 98 TJ I have heard of that had to have the driver side hole tapped since there was no thread.
