Clean, dry air is vital to any engine and around town or on the highway a 4-wheel drive's stock air filter does an admirable job of protecting it from contamination. However, once that vehicle hits the trail, deep water crossings and plumes of thick bull dust can overwhelm its stock filter and literally destroy its engine. Experienced 4-wheel drive explorers have long known this and consider raising their engines' air-intakes a vital step in creating greater protection. American Expedition Vehicles makes this vital step easy for Jeep JK owners by offering a raised intake snorkel system. This easily installed product places the air intake point at roof level which allows the engine and filter to breath more safely from a location well above the deepest water crossings and densest dust.

Pros: got it used. Fresh engine air on dusty roads; deep water capability.
Cons: Maybe a bit more drag as far as fuel economy goes but who cares.

Comments: Some people like them, some don't. Do what makes you happy.

Price: $300.00
Pros: The pre filter catches alot of small and large Particulates
Cons: Decreases gas mileage
Recommended? Yes

Comments: The pre-filter is awesome. Ram air is good, but u get about the same performance and less junk clogging up your filter with the pre-filter installed. Be nice to your Air filter and get a pre-filter!

AEV Snorkel with Pre-filter
Price: $329.00
Pros: Durability, ease of install, quality, cost, looks
Cons: You have to cut a hole in your hood
Recommended? Yes

Comments: Bought this after taking my brand new JK out to a mud pit with some friends to have some fun (read: showing off) and hydrolocked the engine. Thankfully, Chrysler replaced the block and sundries for me under warrenty! I vowed to never again get stuck from some splashing... Ordered from Quadratec. Arrived on time (less than a week). Came fully parted (nothing missing). As always, AEV instructions where easy to comprehend, fully involved, and very clear. As this was the first time I have ever done destructive body work to a new car i was hesitant to cut into my baby for fear of making her cry. But thankfully the detail of the instruction was enough to give me and my dad a great guide (read: confidence). So far a great product. I got the Pre-filter which seems to have had the effect of reducing my MPG by about .5-1mpg. However it gives me the confidence to take her out again in the soupy stuff to have some more fun. Overall a great product!
