Price: $500.00 Pros: Jeep starts in all types of weather. Will idle off road at any angle. Much saver to drive up and down slopes - no more loading up and stalling. Cons: Wiring was the hardes. Finding complete donor truck is challenging. Custom chips will bring out the true performance, but it will run on the stock chevy chip. Recommended? Yes
Comments: This swap was the best upgrade for my old CJ.
I installed a rebuilt AMC 360 V-8 two years ago with edelbrock performance parts, and an edelbrock 1405 carb with the offroad needle kit. I did not do well off road at all. On road performance was great, but it seriously ran rich.
I did the research (busted jeep on jeep forum, and binderplanet), and decided on a chevy TBI swap. It is the system which Howell copied and sells for over $1,200. Howells system does however not manage spark, the factory GM system does, using your motorcraft dizzy with a Ford large cap, and you will have HEI ignition!
System runs great after having two custom chips burned by a local guy who does this for a living. He can supply complete wiring harnesses if you do not feel like taking your time to work that out.
