YJ Krawler

Well I just traded my 1990 Daihatsu Rocky for a 1988 YJ with the 4.2L and TF999. Body is in good shape, Frame is in good shape, only issues seen so far are the brakes are in need of bleeding and the headlights flicker off, but cut on if you turn the switch off and on again. Lots of ideas floating around in my head but ultimately want a fun weekend warrior that is still a good DD. Been following builds on here for a while and thought I'd finally start my own! Look forward to hearing from everyone!
(EDIT) So, after almost two weeks, have and update. Went through everything and the YJ originally was a manual, but somebody switched out the trans at some point and just cut the pedal with a sawzall. After replacing, rotors, pads, springs in rear drums, pass. caliper, driver ball joints and rear wheel cylinders. Managed to chase out the headlight flicker and get it all running and stopping like it should. Downgraded from the 33's on it to the 31's I had laying around. Also noticed it has a 3 inch body lift on it. Hopefully that will go soon after I replace the springs with stock or 1". Ultimate plan right now is to run somewhere between 33s and 35s on SOA with either an 8.8 or Ford 9 and 44. But all that depends on everything else and how it all comes together and what money looks like, considering this will be a DD. Also got the chance to go into the diffs and looks like the rear gears were replaced recently which is kinda nice.

So since I bough the YJ I have pulled the fender flares off and have installed a toolbox in the rear of the jeep. Removed the sway bars this weekend and tested the YJ out on a RTI ramp. Took it out wheeling and managed to splash water into the carb and have been dealing with sputtering since then. Looking into getting a motorcraft 2100 soon and removing the trackbar as well as a 2.5" lift and a steering box cover in the next month.

Looks like a great clean Jeep, perfect for a build. Where did you end up getting the truck top combo from? I'm thinking about getting one for myself.

I ended up ordering it all from 4-wheel parts. Did some cross-referencing but the bikini is pavement ends, so is the windjammer, and the tonneau cover is smittybilt. Had to check to make sure it would work with the sport bar on their site, but everything should according to the parts numbers. Now it is a waiting game. I can get you the links if you'd like?

So, Update and Pictures! Finished installing the new Motorcraft 2100 this week and took pictures for future reference of others for the throttle linkage plate, spring location, and choke modification. Also took some pictures of the bikini top for @JShwin14... Jeep runs like a dream now, and Idles great, no more sputtering at lights, and hopefully a little better mileage.

Also, second part of update, blew a transmission line off a few weeks back, previous owner (as part of his "swap") had a Frankenstein mess of hard and soft lines for the transmission cooler, so ended up running hard lines and an auxiliary cooler to help keep the trans cool. Thankfully didn't burn up my transmission though! that was a relief. Bumper to come soon, still have some welding to do on that, but would like to have it done in the next week, we'll see how time allows.
