Well the flares are going to go back on this week. The stock flares that is for the time being.... I am undecided now about weather or not to run the MCE flares up front, and not sure which direction I want to go with the rears. As for the 8.8, lockers, and tires, that will most likely be a winter/spring project (and when I save up a bit more $$!). I've had this Jeep parked for a year now and plan to drive it and enjoy it a bit for a few months! Its also kind of like a "test drive" period as well to work out a few bugs here and there. When I bought the Jeep I only drove it about 40 miles (basically from the PO's house to mine) before parking it and tearing into it, so I am still getting a feel for its quirks each time I drive it if that makes sense.

Smart Move on the test drive, I'll be learning the quirks of my next project around febuary when I drive the YJ I'm buying from my Step-Brother from Baltimore Md - Salt Lake city Utah, I helped him pick out the YJ when he bought it Myself and a friend had repaired the frame around the shackles, replaced the driverside floorboard, replaced the downpipe, air tube, cat, and installed a flowmaster catback. It's been sitting in my parents back yard with a dead battery for almost 2 years , Atleast he used Stabil in it. I'm still undecided on MCE fenders on it or going with TNT customs. On my drive back I will be going past the town TNT is based out of so who knows. The only thing that scares me about this YJ is the BA10 tranny, and the Carter carb. I'll probably swap in an ax15 for the trans, as for the Carb I'd throw on a webber carb or ,Howell Fuel injection. But a 4.0 head swap is always an option also

Replaced the u-joints on the rear drive shaft today. One of them had a slight bit of play in it and clicked every now and then, so I decided to change them out. Changing u-joints is a rather easy job if you have a big vice and a couple old sockets. I went with Brute Force joints from Advance Auto after reading a bit about them. Apparently they are a good joint, even better than Spicer according to many people. Spicer is now made over seas from what I read and their quality has gone down, while Brute Force joints are made by Neapco in the US. We shall see how they hold up!
I did end up in in the immediate care hospital today though to get my finger fixed up as a result of this project.... I was cranking the vice down with a piece of pipe for leverage, one of the sockets slipped, my finger/nail got crushed between the pipe and the work bench..... ill keep the gory finger pictures to myself though!! arrrrrrrrr

Ill look forward to seeing your project! Make sure you make a build thread and keep track of the progress, sounds like you have a good plan so far. I'm kind of in the same boat with the fender decision, I kind of like the Metalcloak's and a few others, and just can't decide what to do. So ill "sleep on it" a while and decide sooner or later, its not a huge hurry at the moment because the larger tires wont be on for a while anyway so clearance wont be an issue until then.

No problem! I know I don't detail much as far a "how to do" these projects in each post, so if you need help or an explanation of how I did something step by step let me know! Good luck with your new Jeep!

A little something I forgot to post up before... here is a picture of the new aluminum shift plate cover I made (posted pics of it a few pages back) installed as well as some new shift knobs I'm working on. The shift knobs are antique door knobs (black porcelain from the early 1900's) that I picked up for $5 at an antique mall. I had planned to just tap them to the correct size for the shifter, but the hole they came with was a tiny bit too big to be able to tap to the correct thread size. So instead I drilled out/deepened the hole in them and am making some threaded inserts to put inside to attach them to my shifters. Once the porcelain is polished up and the metal at the bottom is shined up a bit they will look great.

Thanks for the compliment! The current tires are worn out 245/75/16's (about 30''). But once I have the $, I will be upgrading to either 32's or 33's.

I put the factory flares back on today. As I talked about earlier, these will be swapped out as soon as I decide which direction I want to go in that dept. Instead of reusing the crappy factory screws and plastic clips, I replaced everything with stainless cap head bolts.

Another project I took care of today was getting the spare tire mounted. I knew from day 1 that I did not want to run the stock carrier, and did not want any type of aftermarket bumper carrier. I like the "clean look" of the tailgate/rear end without a tire, so obviously the tire will be mounted in the tub (don't need the backseat room). My original plan was to simply install some eye bolts into the seat mounting holes and then use bungee cords to hold the tire down. After I installed them, I came up with an even better solution (left the eye bolts on anyway to use as tie down locations for other stuff).
Using the factory seat belt bolt in the center of the floor, I was able to attach a L shaped piece of steel I had laying around. I then used a large J shaped threaded steel hanger/rod I also had laying around to slip thorough a hole in the L shaped metal piece, and then through a lug hole on the rim where I attached a washer and nut to secure the tire.... see the pics below!

A couple more pics.... oh, and I was able to fit a bottle jack in a small tool bag under the tire for safe keeping!! Gotta make use of all possible space in a Jeep!
