You may want to look into mounting the drag link to the bottom of the Pittman arm to level it out and then get some thinner spacers. You will have less bump steer and a stronger construct.

Looking good. I like cage work. Lol
Thanks buddy. I will definitely be adding some stuff to the back and a harness bar when I get new seats and harnesses. Do you really think my cage moved much from the heat? we had 4-6 tacks on each joint before we pulled it and tried not to heat up the metal too much beyond getting good penetration.

I was thinking about that too. I think if I mount it underneath the pitman arm its gonna hit the tie rod when the pass. side comes up. I was thinking about just grinding them down a bit. Not sure why RuffStuff sent such tall misalignment spacers.

couple things...
1st sparrows.. 1800 for a 'running' full dress 5.3 motor trans wiring harness pedal ecu with 103k on it is about the average around here, especially if you don't have to pay a bs 'core charge.' if it comes from a reputable yard is important as well. I would want to know the year of said motor. you absolutely need to verify, by any means possible to you, that it is an actual 5.3l. the 4.8s 5.3s and 6.0s are all identical from the outside. its pretty common for a guy to get sold a 5.3 and it actually is a 4.8....

randon.... hopefully with all the tacks it will stay fairly well 'put' do expect some shifting. and if it didn't move, then you will be even more happy LOL...

on the steering, I think I would look into a few things... [1] put the heim joint at the pitman arm on the bottom, but re-install with safety washers vs high mis-alignment spacers. They still offer a quite a bit of degree change but aren't as crazy high/long/tall as what you are running. I would even consider running them at the knuckles as well. you don't need all that height coming off the knuckles... safety washers provide more than enough room for change during turning. I might consider keepin the 'high misalignment spacers' [ if not at least 1 of them] between the drag link heim and the cross over heim at the pass knuckle just to keep clearance between the 2 links. the closer you can get those to level, the more operating angle you have at your disposal.

another option... you can always put the cross over link on the bottom side of the knuckles, with safety washers. then put the drag link heim on the top side with high misalignment spacers, and then put the pitman arm heim on the bottom side as well, with the appropriate spacers [high/short] whichever gives you the best results.

some related pics

in all honesty, It comes down to how much flex you have, if you flex beyond the safety washers then yeah you need to run the high misalignment spacers or re-work your steering set up, if you don't, then the shorter spacers are the way to go.

there are a ton of rigs out there with the steering set up like yours. one thing that most don't add is some type of bracket to put the bolt in a double sheer set up. doing this adds safety and strength to the system. being that the front 30 has unit type bearings, you can easy fab a bracket out of 1/4" that uses a few of those bolts to mount. going to a double sheer set up you can even afford the luxury of increasing the distance between the 2 heims at the knuckle with a spacer, to move the drag link up into a more level position.

this is alttle extreme but you get the idea...

hey these are my thoughts on it.... either way its better than stock and looks tough. nice.

I was curious about stacking both heims on top of the knuckle too, but once I put it together I don't think i'll have any problems with that big *** grade 8 bolt. I think once I take it out wheeling and get it flexed out I will have a better idea of where I can move each joint to or if I need to. I may just order some safety misalignment spacers from ruffstuff and get rid of the high misalignment.

Got some paint on the cage. I was wondering why it looked so chrome. The cap was dark Grey but apparently the color was Aluminum. 1390435199952.jpg1390435212956.jpg

Went back and got some Grey. That's more like it

Everything moves alittle. You might have to push and pull here and there. It's usually the windshield mounts that give the most trouble.

Don't you hate it when you pick some movie expecting it to be decent and it's boring as frock but you still watch the darn thing till the end hoping for something good to happen... Should have stayed at the shop.

I got my spacers from Ballistic. I think they are called safety washers.
