THE BLUE TJ IS 95% DONE!! I have to make a set of rear UCAs to get the pinion angle corrected. cash flow depends on the day. LOL I have about 500 wrapped up into R&D on resolving the intake issue. still cheaper than a custom hood and paint. don't want to loose the features of the dodge ram hemi motor.

yeah the motors are tough, yet, I have a yukon with 160K on it and it developed the infamous lifter tick at startup a couple thousand miles ago. the donor motor has 141k on it and was a roll over. I may just pull the plugs and check compression, but for $500 and a Saturday afternoon, I would have a 0 mile motor and peace of mind, a little at least LOL.

yeah Ill definitely take the adapter. im going to do the 231c/231j mod and I read on another thread I can splice into the jeeps VSS circuit to tell the 5.3 ECU that the vehicle is 'moving.' I think I only need to have the ECU VSS 'parameter' changed to the jeep parameter. that would be just awesome!.

the donor truck is a 2000 Silverado 2wd with a cable driven throttle body.. which is great because I don't want to deal with the electronic pedal on this build. but I do need the 4wd spacer

I really want to see if I cant make the jeep auto shifter work with the 4l60e. IIRC the shifter pattern Is reverse on the GM. maybe a bracket and lever system to flip the range of motion? maybe I can design something that will also mount a novak tcase shifter??? IDK but its got me thinking... I really want to try and keep the 'interior' of the jeep stock appearance.

ill look on Camaro5 for the manifolds.... I will be using the AA adapters for the TJ for the install. I have a $100 credit there from a past return.

you can flare the hard lines and re-use them but aeroquip/summit/earls etc use sae flare which is 37* not 45* like you find common for plumbing etc and the standard flaring tools from hardware store.

your 4.0 was carbed so i can def see how your fuel pump wouldn't work. im sure a fuel pump system from a 97 EFI 4.0 would work with out issue. I had to jump to an 05 system from my 00 system in the blue hemi. the 05 system puts out about 10 more PSI than the 04 and older IIRC and the new hemi needs that little bit extra.

theres a link to the hemi firing up open headers in my build. goes to you tube. don't know how to 'paste' it into my post yet..

I don't think you can use the Jeep's VSS for the 5.3 ECU. Something about one being square wave. Advanced adapters have a piece that bolts between the transmission and transfer case that houses the correct VSS and works nice for the 231J/C hybrid transfer case. I did it and it works great. You can see details in my thread.

I think FrankZ used the factory shifter for his Cherokee. The Cherokee shifter is similar to the TJ one so you might check that out.

thanks ill take a look at your threads.... and check out frankz's as well.

yeah a guy posted that you could use the jeeps VSS and that the ECU only needed to know that it was 'moving' have to remember who. thought I sub'd to the thread. I believe someone else had his ecu re-programmed to read the jeeps VSS. I think my last option, 'known to work' will be the AA kit. what was the cost of it.

randon.... who did you end up getting the manifolds from. I registered at Camaro5 and came across atleast [3] posts from you requesting manifolds from different members....LOL ..

Thats hilarious. I got them from Camarojt. Blue10camaroSS just sent me a message back. I told him I would pass along your username, hopefully he can hook you up. Just some warning, shipping was $45 from Texas to Colorado, 2 states away!

Everything looks good. Tranny mount bolted in where I drilled it and the steering shaft clears well too

And some random pics. My leaf springs protect the oil pan pretty well.

Glad I could help hook you up! My trans is very close! I should have grabbed a shot, it is so close to touching but I think ill be fine. Im a little worried about the radiator but the motor cant move 3/4" forward so im ok. I have heard of people cutting the skid to make room for the trans pan too

yeah I think i'd be one of those people..lol I would want atleast an 1" between the 2 just to accommodate any motor and or frame twist...

no I don't see the motor moving forward 3/4" either.. you would have had to done some pretty hardcore stuff to make that happen anytime in the future.

curious... how much did you put out for the radiator? minus shipping as superior is like 30 minutes from my house..

I will definitely be keeping an eye on clearances once she is up and running. My rad was $300 before shipping. Others are more and others are less, but I felt more comfortable with these guys

The VSS on the LS series engines is very important with the automatic. Controls shift points, line pressure, and other things. It doesn't just need to know it's moving, it needs to know how fast exactly. That's why when you send your PCM to get programmed, you need to tell the programmer what tire size and gear ratio you are running. Also, the reason why you can't run the VSS behind the transfer case unless you wire in the 4WL siwtch back to the PCM.

Lots of guys have had engine failure off camber with the F-body pan due to oil starvation. There is a baffle kit you can buy, or get the pan from Pacific Fabrication, or Kevco, or do what I did. Buy a H3 pan kit. It's $150 for everything, and saves you about an inch.

Glad **** is working out for you! It will be nice to have the manifolds to test fit the motor. I had to pull the old manifolds while trying to place everything since they were hitting the firewall. There is so much clearance now!

If I had the tools/knowledge to rebuild mine in a Saturday afternoon I think I would have gone that route!

These engines are designed for 250K before overhaul. If I have my Jeep that long, I was just going to buy another motor for $400 and rebuild it and then swap it out when I'm done.
