A YJ 5.3 build without a clever name

This is more of an engine swap thread than a build thread but it can just keep going after I get the swap done! I started a previous thread here http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f369/5-3-swap-feeler-1464096/ to get some info and bounce ideas off of people but now that it is going down I figure I should start a new one for anyone wanting to follow or gain/contribute some knowledge. I'll bring everyone up to where it sits now. The build probably wont go as fast as I would like due to budget and time restraints. I'm trying to part out the rest of the donor truck to fund more parts. For a little back story, I think that my engine swap is especially awesome since I used to own the donor truck a couple of years ago. I actually sold it to my buddy in order to buy my YJ, so the truck has been in my life for almost 5 years. I paid $12k for it with only 71k on it then I bought it back from insurance for $1600 with 114k! :2thumbsup:

After I pulled the Jeep in the garage so I could start tearing it down, I walked in a couple days later to see the engine leaning against my tire and front spring. It broke off the MAP sensor and smashed the ecm plug. Hopefully the wiring guy can fix it easily enough. This is about where I am at. My AA motor mounts are in but Advance Adapters is out of 27 spline inputs for their tranny/t-case adaper so that won't make it in time for what I though would be a very productive weekend. I was trying to get a hold of an input from JB Conversions but I cant get them to return my call. I placed my order with AA last friday to give myself plenty of time but AA doesnt seem to care. Lack of customer service is frustrating.

I shouldn't be so hasty to bad mouth. Advance Adapters got ny kit shipped today. Should be here friday

I got the wiring harness (mostly off tonight). Did anyone have trouble getting the plugs out of tha tranny? The one I got off looks like it has super glue on it. I couldn't get the other off so I left it soaking in PB

Does the 6 pinion planetary come in the 231c? And does that swap over as well? Do I have your sway in YJOTM when im done?

#16 ·
I dont have any plans for it yet. If I had the money I would do the hd chain and 6 pinion planetary but ill just run it stock for the time being. I dont have a very heavy foot while wheeling

#17 ·
By GM chain you mean one from a 231c? Im not too familiar with how those chains interchange

#20 ·
Yeah they swap over. Its a stronger chain for the just in case moments.

I would like to see this unfold completely.
I am looking into the chevy chain though it will have to wait till later im sure. I got the new input shaft installed in the t case. Snap rings are a pain in the *** even with snap ring plyers. I got it all bolted back together and realized I forgot to put the magnet in. didnt get any farther on the adaper but the hardest part is done. Im still hoping to get the drivetrain in by Sunday

How much does wyane charge to do wire harness and tune. If your trying to save $$$$. Do the harness yourself its easy to do. Did mine in a couple of nights after work. New wire loom and some electrical tape. All the info you need is right here http://lt1swap.com/index.htm. Check it out.
I have thought about it but I really hate wiring. In my opinion it is $250 well spent!

I was in once, but yeah. I didnt/wouldnt vote for myself. Leave that for the TJ guys

In TJOTM or YJOTM?

Ill have some more pics up this evening when I get the t case on the tranny. I am heading over to my God Sons birthday party then over to help my mechanic buddy get his 350 out of his blazer so he can put in a 5.7 from a 2000 escalade

I think it only has around 120k and its fuel injected. Feel like making a drive out to CO? :highfive:

I got the adapter on. Didnt quite get the t case hung from it but its on. There is a seal that Whyj mentioned that the instructions dont. I think it goes in the second piece

I think the whole drivetrain will be approximately 1" shorter, from fan to output yoke.

I got 1 motor mount ground off but I didnt get to the other. It was a bit of a pita

Strike 2. I was trying to dig out the broken MAP sensor and it fell into the intake manifold along with my digging tool  new intake gasket is $75 at my friend's cost. Oh well, probably a good idea to re seal it, its just not a cost I wanted right now.

On a good note, ill be sending off my harness and ecm tomorrow.
