I don't mind showing you a few tips and tricks sometime, I'm not what I would consider an expert by any means but I've done a few things

Btw, I like the fenders so far, looks good!

What I usually do when I'm welding thick material to thin and can't get a good looking bead is just weld for strength first no matter what it looks like, then do a little grinding and go over the welds nice and slow to make it look good if that all makes seance lol.

If your burning holes in your floor tiring to weld the thick steel to your body, get some copper plate and have someone hold it under the body where your going to be welding. The copper will allow you to "burn through the metal and not cause a hole when it cools.

Do some research on copper and mig welding! It works pretty well.

If you try to weld it like a normal joint between two same thickness pieces you will play hell trying not to make holes in the floor.

I fought with the sheet metal unibody when I was welding Chuck's 4 link on so I know how difficult it can be.
X2, I did this when I did my 2x6 rockers, but I used 3/16". It's not fun, but take your time. You'll get it. BTW, the rig is looking good!

Thanks!

Next week I finish all of my finals so I will finally have time to work on it again.
Got an early Christmas gift couple days ago. My dad watched me try to make a perfect notch in some tube. Took me about 10-15 min and he hands me a tube notcher and says bet this would have been easier marry Christmas. Any way work continues next week! Possibly Monday.

Nice, I need a tube notcher...

I'm too cheap to buy one since I've gotten by making notches with the chop saw and grinder that fit just as well but it takes up a lot of time I could be saving lol.

He got me a harbor freight one and it works pretty good I used it on 3 other tubes and it does the trick. One side is higher after the notch but it fits snug against a tube. Some people shim it to make it even but it doesn't bother me that much and its not hurting anything.

Got a couple things taken care of the past week not much though.
first I took this out
then I finished this I used copper like suggested and just pored weld onto the sheet metal, worked well but also very ugly. Also welding around the tube was giving me an extremely hard time.

Today my Grandmother did it again and got me a new Riddler Diff cover for the 8.8, I don't know how she does it.

I also did some other little things like repainting the stiffeners and sliders.

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!

Thank you very much! No roll cage yet that's just the start of my inner fender. Hopefully I'll become more comfortable welding tube, have better welds, and learn a lot more then get started on a cage.

Just got back from snowboarding in heaven aka Quebec.

Today I washed and waxed the dd which of coarse not an hour later a bird decided to **** on it. Anyway painted this bad boy for the 8.8 and received a lost Christmas gift No more borrowing gauges!

Picking up some goodies from a friend next week hopefully and tomorrow if I have time before work I'll be ordering some sheet metal and picking up some blades to finish the rear fenders.
