Will touch up paint keep your jeep from rusting?

I got back from mud riding today, and my tires were super slick and I was on a dirt road. I started fishtailing and came off the road. I hit the ditch. No major damage (thank the lord) but my side step has been pushed back towards the rear fender. Now it's no major damage and I think I can straighten the step up. But the paint is chipped on the bottom, will factory paint keep it from rusting. If not, what should I get?
