Wife's Jeep

So after building my 89YJ up, and after spending last year doing a resto-mod on the first jeep I ever bought, I just got a 95 YJ for my wife.

This Jeep just suffers from neglect; it is a solid base with most of the $$$ stuff already done.

It was my BIL's until he lost interest and it sat in his driveway for 1.5 years.

It is a 95 Rio Grande 2.5L with:
  • BDS 4" springs
    AA SYE
    Nate's 4x4 bumper/tire carrier
    SmittyBilt XRC10 winch
crappy DIY liner on the floor only
    33x10.50 BFG KM2s on 15x8 black steelies
    tuffy console
    1" lift shackles
    Rusted to cr@p windshield frame

My wife wants to "tone it down" a bit, so...

I sold the Tires & Winch to purchase new 31 x 10.50 all terrain tires on different black steel wheels. I am replacing the lift shackles with stock length ones.

I have White Monstaliner to put down once I pull up the old one.

I hope to take some pictures along the way, but here is how it sits now...

Looks like a pretty clean Jeep to start out with. Good luck!

Thanks, it is in really good shape for 19 years old.

If my plans hold I will have the seats and console out by Sunday and be cleaning the old liner off. Some of it already came off with just a putty knife and pliers. The PO did not remove the roll bars when he lined, so I may not be able to pull them out either. I hope to just clean up enough to have a solid installation of Monstaliner.

I replaced all the brake lines already with stainless too and I think that was the worst of what I have left.

I don't normally mess with the calipers, but they have some surface rust, so I plan to paint them wiht white caliper paint.

The exhaust was completely shot, but it came with a new set that just needs to be installed; the set is complete from manifold to exhaust tip.

My wife wants a set of the "new" islander stickers for the hood too. I think I created a monster when I said "tell me what you want"...

I wish my wife was into Jeeps half as much as me. If she was I would have one in the driveway right now

Made some more progress....

Used one of the eraser wheels for the first time, and I am very pleased with the results.

I also have 1/2 the frame prep done for Chassis Saver.

I started prepping the Old liner for installation of Monstaliner.

Hope to reassemble the xfer case tomorrow and reinstall it early next week.

My goal is to Monstaliner either next weekend or the one after.

almost done prepping the interior; Herculiner is b!tch to remove. I have it mostly removed and at least smoothed out where it is firmly attached. I did find some rust I need to address hiding under the liner.

Had to address some front axle u joint issues so no lining done yet.

For grins I put the rear tires on. I know the 31s look small, but it is what she wants...

I got up a "O Dark thirty" today to start laying down my Monstaliner....

I had the heaters running all night to get the garage nice and warm (I shut them off to avoid death by explosion)

Nice and warm at the start..

Silver Chassis Saver primer is down; waiting for it to dry enough to start my first coat of White Monstaliner.

Temp is dropping, but it should stay above 50 since my garage is nicely insulated.

12 hours later and I'm done...

I am surprised how quickly it dried between coats. The humidity is pretty high in my garage from the kerosene heaters (they were turned off, but over night they upped the humidity a good bit).

I think that contributed to the cure times. I was leaving about 4 hours between coats and it was just barely tacky.

Now I can start putting the interior back together and get ready for the Softopper I ordered.

Looks Great, nice install on the monstaliner, shouldn't have to worry about a thing other than maybe a good old Texas tornado (I was still living there when downtown Ft Worth got hit a few years back) but I'm not even sure that would hurt the monstaliner.
