What I basically do is mix a 60/40 of Purple Power degreaser and water in a spray bottle. Drench the [dry] engine with the mixture, let it sit for a few minutes and then power wash away. I'll repeat that two or three times depending on how dirty the engine is, as well as the under body. I like to do it once a season. I also will hit the engine bay with WD-40 for shine, and it also helps deflect the mud too. Just be easy around the intake, and if you have an aftermarket one, cover the filter with a garbage bag.

One thing I can't stand is working on an engine or under body and having mud fall in my eyes. Keep it clean, spot the problem early enough so it doesn't turn into a bigger problem [leaks, etc...]

Hmm but the powerwashing doesnt affect anything?!

Heck, I might take a whack at this in spring after I fix my leaky valve cover gasket

I just make sure to cover the air filter and not hang out around the intake too much, but other than that I've never had a problem. Usually do it before I clean the entire Jeep this way it dries by the time I want to drive.

Added a snorkel to the TJ this weekend, still need to duct it to the air intake. Picked this up for $50, local.

Had off the day of the blizzard, and somewhere in my crazy mind I decided to drive an hour to get some tires. What a difference tires make! The KM2's I originally wanted are on a backorder so I opted for the Mickey Thompson MTZ's. They did AWESOME in the snow, aren't too loud and look great. I can't wait to hit the trail with them.

Stay tuned for front and rear bumpers next!
