Dude I'm loving your jeep. Do you regret cutting the fenders at all? I'm liking the idea of the extra clearance, and I know I wouldn't be able to afford tube fenders for a while. I'm just concerned because here in PA we have tire coverage laws that suck.

i dont regret it at all and i think it brings a bit of originality to it (well atleast around here) when i can afford full replacement tube fenders like the TnT phantom fenders ill get em but till then ive got other things i want to do like a full cage which should be happening this winter i hope

Good deal. From your experience, do you think I'd be able to cut the fenders to the point that its worth it, yet still be able to put flares on for when I'm on the road for an extended time?

depends i guess. any cutting you do youll lose where the factory ones bolt up so you could design it so that you leave enough of a lip along the hood line then drill some holes in it. then make something like a flat plastic flare that would bolt to the new holes and would be wide enough to cover your tires. i think it would look goofy but if you sat down and engineered it right i bet you could come up with something that would work for both applications. maybe something along those lines but a bit more refined and where you can just bolt it on when you need it and yet still have it close to stock looking.

so basically it comes down to how much work/money you wanna spend on it.

I have used that same welder you just got and its not too bad. I used it to weld up some 1/8" nut strips for my xj and it worked great for that. Your tj is one of my favorites, nice work.

Here is a weld with it, nothing special but it did its job.

Al, it will be a while still before I go to 35 inch tires but I am eager to cut my fenders. I was wondering if you have stock control arms? I think I am going to skip the BL MML combo and get a SYE and add another inch to my suspension lift later. Can I use the 35 inch tires with a 3 inch lift with cut fenders and stock lower control arms or will the rubbing be terrible?

i have stock control arms now. i want to either make some mid arms or just buy some upper and lower adjustables. the only rubbing that i have had was where i least expected it. my front will rub on the back of the fender and same with the rear. ill make a pic to show you exactly where im talking about. but basically i need to stretch the front a little and trim the rear some. id recommend going with a sye for sure but i did the BL and MML so that i could run skids that brought everything up an inch like savvys gas tank skid and eventually a tummy tuck. if you ran with 35s and had a tummy tuck its equivalent to running 39" tires i believe. so there are alot of advantages to running a BL. but with just the 3" lift and 35s with no flares or fenders you will probably rub in the rear but i would think you will be fine up front. ill look for some pictures and things in just a few minutes

The colors in your pix are crazy. Are you doing HDR with those? I'd like to see what they look like pre-processing...
