Yes, this is another LJ rubicon build yet slightly different. Different due to the fact that it will be an unlimited LJ
not an unlimited TJ
I bought the jeep from an auction in Colorado after it was rear-ended. The damage to the jeep was worse than the pictures made it look but I still feel that I made a great purchase. So let the rebuild begin!
The passenger side frame rail pretty much went through the tub when the jeep was hit.
Here are a few shots of the jeep on the frame machine before we started pulling on it.
We pulled on the frame with the body on still in hopes that the body would somewhat straighten out at the same time.. and it did
Then we brought it back to the shop to pull the body off and take the frame back to the frame machine.
Due to the frame being kinked right at the arch, we came up with a plan to make the frame work a little bit easier. We had a wrecked TJ frame with front end damage and decided to hack the back of it off and section it into the LJ frame. As most of you know, that will stretch the LJ wheelbase 5" hence the "Unlimited LJ"
I didn't get a chance to take any pictures of the two frames cut in half but I did get a few of them being sectioned back together. Pics are just tacked, not fully welded.
Due to the stock tub being pretty beat up from the wreck, I decided to cut the tub right behind the doors and use the rear half of another LJ tub to section in (would have just used the whole tub but it had firewall damage already) Yesterday, the frame and half of the original body were put back together and the jeep is yet again headed to the frame shop to have the rear tub sectioned to the front. After the tubs are fully welded back together, the outside of the tub will be re-painted white. I have decided to bed-line the interior so there is no sense in painting the inside.
After the body is back in 1 piece, there won't be much left to do before I can start driving it. I will be ordering Poison Spyder front highlines w/ 3" flare and daddy longlegs rockers/rear corners. once those are on, I have a set of 35" BFG A/T's to throw on and then I will be able to start driving the jeep. The first thing on my to do list (after I start driving the jeep) is to do a small BL and MML to allow for a tummy tuck. I have other plans after that but they always seem to change
Here is what the jeep looked like as of yesterday
I plan on using this jeep as my DD/ mild trail rig/ expo vehicle. I am also currently build a TJ that will be a Trail only jeep.. more on that later.
I live only 2 hours from Moab and its my favorite place to wheel! I was hoping the jeep would be done in time for EJS but thats not going to happen.
Well that pretty much catches this build up for now. I will post some pictures when the jeep come back in 1 piece.
Comments are very welcome and if you are ever near moab and want some new trails to wheel, hit me up!
