Looks like your throwing plenty of heat on the welds ! I am guessing that theres just enough room to fish the bolts through the mounts ?

ha, yeah trying to get as much as i can. my little welder is on its max setting, though it may not even have to be that hot. my welds definitely have gotten better throughout the project, haha.

actually there is not. i only had 4 1.5" bolts. the only reason they are placed like that, is that was the easiet way to get the mounts to line up in the extra holes i drilled. but there is enough room to slide the nuts in from the bumper side and bring the bolts from the back side. not ideal, i should have went to lowes and bought the extra bolts, but i didnt. its a learning process i guess, this is the first bumper ive made.

so i was cruising right along, hoping to finish up today, when i ran out of welding wire. haven't had time to go out and get more, while i'm at it i'm going to pick up the rest of the bolts and some paint. dissapointed because i only have the last two d-ring mounts to burn in.

i'm probably going to use some chip coat as a base layer and then some semigloss on top of that. any suggestions?

troutfest is tomorrow, so ill be in townsend most of the day. i might be able to work on it/finish it up tomorrow night.

troutfest went pretty well this weekend. even got to small mouth fish, but no luck. we didnt get to fish very long and there were a lot of tubers out.

i didnt get to work much on the bumper all weekend, though i was able to finish up one of the d-ring mounts. i put the last one in the morning and painted it. i primed it with a light coat of rustoleum black and then used a rustoleum bed liner over top. i think the finish came out pretty well, and it should be easy to touch up. i wasnt sure how much paint to buy, i only bought one can and that was plenty.

in the last picture it looks like the bumper is a lot wider than the jeep. its not. its only 3/16's wider at each end. which just happened to be the width of the plate i used to cap the ends. if i could go back again i would shorten it to body width.

Nice build on that bumper. The extra width may help protect your corners until you add some armor.

Townsend is an awesome area. Been through there on my motorcycle quite a few times...unfortunately never with my fishing gear though.

thanks man. id like to add a tire carrier eventually, but its not needed yet. i was thinking the same thing as well with the extra width. i still need to add some frame tie-ins, but im headed to chicago for a few days to see the wife's family.

that was unfortunate to not have your fishing gear! im starting to take my rods everywhere, ha.

I bought a "B" pole some time ago to compliment my "A" setup. It was a telescopic Shakespere and NOS Zebco Rhino reel that fit into my riding gear easily. Unfortunately I lost it over Mother's Day weekend while kayaking. I won't miss my next opportunity to fish the area, that I assure you.

dude that's a horrible story, i'm sorry to hear that. i hope you get into some awesome fishing to make up for it.

this area is loaded with some great fishing. i wore out some rainbows this morning, smallest was about 15 and i took a 20 inch hog out of the clynch. i was only able to get a picture of one of them with my phone

That bumper turned out nice. I can't tell, are the ends open?

Well after a little break and some traveling, back to work on the Jeep and Jeep related activities.

What do all of these things have in common?
