Turbocharged 2.4L Jeep TJ for me too!!!

Hi All,

I was inspired by this thread from Air Sierra on Reno 4x4:
http://www.reno4x4.com/forum/showthr...Jeep-TJ-for-me!!!

I'm going to use it as a guide to do my own turbo setup on my TJ!

The cliff notes: Use the exhaust manifold and turbo from a PT Cruiser / Neon SRT4 and flip it upside down so it fits on the Jeep 2.4. Run conservative boost and the computer will adjust accordingly. (I Hope!)

Items purchased so far:

Used turbo and exhaust manifold - eBay
Air/Water Intercooler kit - Frozenboost.com
Coolant and Oil lines and fittings for Turbo - kinugawa turbo
2.5" Magnaflow Universal Spun Catalytic converter - eBay
Larger fuel injectors - fiveomotorsports
Custom adaptor plate for exhaust manifold - free (made by coworker)
Intercooler piping - Ebay
assorted exhaust and intake parts, air filter - siliconeintakes.com
spark plugs and some other small parts - rockauto.com

So far in pulling the exhaust off the jeep to get this started, I found I had a cracked exhaust manifold which would explain how loud it had been!

A big thanks for Air Sierra for being the first to do this. I will post pics as I go.

Just a pic of the jeep before surgery and a pic of the cracked turbo I got from eBay. The seller sent me another one to replace it but I don't trust it, I'm sending both out for rebuild.

My adaptor plate is a little off so it needs some work but here is the exhaust manifold on the motor so I can start working on the exhaust.

This weekends progress: I don't have A/C so I was able to tuck the heat exchange in front of the radiator nicely, I just flipped the support bar around. Working on getting the exhaust done while I wait for more parts in the mail. Finally got a tank for my baby MIG welder, it's so much better than flux core! Been doing some practice pieces so I can make up the brackets I'll need and weld the non-stainless part of my exhaust.

I'm going to put an optima battery in, which isn't as long so I'm going to cut down the battery tray and it should fit.

The breather filter didn't fit at first - I had to drill out some of the rubber, but it was plenty thick rubber so I think it's fine. "Spectre Performance 3998 White Breather Filter" on amazon.

Do you mean the sheet metal cover for the turbo? Yeah, I don't have that so if you have one extra that would be great.

I'm just waiting on a 2" to 2.5" silicon reducer for the turbo outlet then I think I'll have everything I need for it to run!

Got ya - I sent the 2 turbo cores I had out for rebuild - they used the best parts from both, mainly the core from the non cracked one and the housing from the cracked one - which was in much better shape. So the turbo I have no is a fresh rebuild, too bad my engine has 140k on it! I will search for that heatshield and I need to put some header wrap on my exhaust, like you have on yours.

She's alive! Like TJRuss said in his build thread, it sounds like a diesel, the turbo whine is awesome.... I'm dumping exhaust behind the trans skid plate until my cat-back arrives. Took it for a spin up to the gas station to get some 93 octane in the tank. I have to figure out the boost management - I think the computer doesn't like much past 10psi - a little detonation so I'll have to play nice until I get the rest of the 87oct run out of the tank and I need to finish up my air/water intercooler.

How much boost are you getting? Did you put a valve in-line with the wastgate for more boost? The highest I hit was 5lbs but I'm not beating on it yet

I put a valve in line - I thought I had it pretty open to limit the boost and I'm getting near 10psi - maybe not open enough. I'm going to take the valve out and see what it does - I don't want to run 10, 8 would be the max I would like.

and 0-60 is not going to be impressive! lol I would get better numbers with my crown vic. I don't want to race the jeep I just want it to get out of it's own way.
