As for painting the frame, I would suggest wire wheeling any of the rust/bubbling then hitting the whole thing with ~60 grit sanding discs. I would also look into Chassis Saver as opposed to POR-15, quite a bit cheaper and tons of support on this site.

Cheers
That is lucky!
Already started with the wire wheel, thing works wonders. I would, but I already ordered the Por-15 kit. Just have to get my prep right.

Thanks. Nice TJ btw.

Little update:
Been working on the frame the last little bit, almost done half.

Does this look good enough for the Por?

Decided to clean up my disconnects:

Good as new.

Also, I almost have everything for the frame:

From what I've read if you aren't applying it to tight rust then you wanna make the metal as rough as possible, I'm pretty sure a 60 grit sanding disc should do the trick (that's what I've been using). You definitely don't want smooth metal as the paint won't have anything to grip to, for mine so far I've just sanded the factory coating til its rough (not down to bare metal) and also removed all the loose rust rust but left the tight stuff...should be starting applying Chassis Saver this week

good from far, far from good.

Good luck with the rebuild.

Make sure to rust proof the crap out of everything you put together.

I took your advice, and bought some 60 grit sand paper, been roughing up the frame afterwards.

Thank you! I will, might as well put in the effort now that I have this chance.

Update June 19 2011:
Not much has been done, been busy with work and other things, sorry guys.
I'm going to work as much as I can this week to see if I can get it done this sunday, the weather hasn't been either.

Also picked up a Dana 44.

Thanks. I'm glad I got that chance. What's the story behind yours?

It sure is. Thank you!

Update:
Frame is pretty much ready for por-15. Just finishing up the scuffing in a few areas. Afterwards going to wash and do the degrease and metal-ready prep.

Sorry for the slow updates, been working a lot. More work=More Jeep parts

Also got my UCF skid plate today. Thing is pretty sweet.

EDIT: In the end, I wish I would have just gotten the frame sandblasted. Wasted too much time and money with ****ing wire wheels.

Damn, that sounds like a rough day. Thankfully you're here today.
That's how I look at it too, I'm repaying the favor by rebuilding her.

Todays Work list:
It's almost a quarter to 11 here, I'm going to work my *** off today and finish painting this frame.
Hopefully I will have many pics for you guys later in the day.

Head on with a Chevrolet HHR. Wasn't a fun experience, but thankfully we both walked away from the crash.
