Your going to be happy with the parts list once its all installed though you may want to look at 4.88's .

Gerald recommended 4.56 wit the 6 speed and 35s. Do you think the 4.56 wont be enough?

With 5.13's I am over geared , but I went that direction on purpose to make for easier towing . I think 4.88's would be about perfect but take a look at grimm jeeper and compare the #s for yourself .

As a person with 4.88s, 35s and a 6 speed, I would go with 4.56 if I was to regear.

06 WK 5.7 Hemi Overland - Daily
87 MJ Chief 57k original miles... getting built in the backyard. 37s, waggy axles, D300, 6 speed, etc.

Gone - 05 LJ on 37s, 79 FSJ Chief on 38s, 85 CJ-7 on 31s

I would love it if this was an offroad only/trailered rig but I personally like to go 80 without the engine screaming at me. You can hear it a lot more if you have no fenders....

1st isnt useless at all. I use it every take off and live in a basically flat area. But a 7th gear would be nice (see the engine screaming comment above)

I wont tell a story 7th gear would be awesome , and if I had it to do over I "might" go 4.88s . The might in that depends on when I go to climb up the Eisenhower tunnel and I think thats when the 5.13s will shine .

So many different opinions on this. To me, it shows the diversity in the different rigs that we drive, the different ways that we drive them, and the different places that we drive them in & to.

Gerald's experience with 4.56's is hard to disagree with. I'd say he's right on for 80-90% of the street/trail applications.

Some examples that would alter this recommendation>

As Beasley said, a trailer makes a huge difference.

The rotating & unsprung weight of a 35" tire & wheel assy can possibly vary by around by about 50+ lbs each, depending on if there's a heavy wheel, like beadlocks, and the tire construction.

How much hiway driving as compared to rock crawling?

How much armor?...how much lift?...how heavy is the gear that you typically bring off and on road?

What altitude do you live or play at? (Rule of thumb, the engine loses 3% HP for every 1,000 ft of elevation).

Then there's the TC ratio/crawl ratios to compare.

Personally, when I regear again, I'll use 4.88's. I'll go a little slower on the hiways...low 60's in MPH is fine with me. I don't want to (slightly) compromise the rock crawling like I am now with the 4:1 TC and 4.27 gears. My current setup works excellently for dual purpose, but when I want to really crawl, I want that option, and I'm willing to slow down a bit on the hiway for it.

My point is, there's no 1 answer best for everyone. Look at all the parameters, and choose for your own rig & purposes.

I do mostly daily driving with 70/30 highway/city.

I will never tow with it.

Armor will consist of: Rock Sliders (MC OR Hanson), UCF Aluminum TCase Skid, and Savvy Bumpers with synthetic line winch.

I can be anywhere from sea level to 4k+ altitude going from MA to VT.

I have the NP231 and most likely won't go 4:1 reduction. I generally cruise between 55-65mph on the highway. No desire to go faster.

In general, I will keep my rig light and drive slowly.

After a lot of research, I didn't feel comfortable with the MTR/Ks on a DD in New England. Luckily, there are some great locals and I scored a great deal on a friend's 35x12.50R15 BFG ATs. They only had about 7k miles on them before he went to the aforementioned MTR/Ks.

I suppose one of the toughest decisions is now settled. Next decision is MC vs Savvy lift. Perhaps, not as easy of a decision.
