What about leaving the spare on the trailer? Take some tire plugs and CO2?
For some trips, like JV next month, that might be a good option. I do carry a BlackJack Plug Kit at all times and Co2, etc. I've never sliced a sidewall, never needed to put the spare on the rig during a run and blown exactly 1 bead (last year on Outer Limits and I had my pressure a little too low (5-6psi) on my non-beadlock front driver tire).
I only trailer the TJ once or twice a year and the other times I'm driving the TJ to and from the trail, sometimes with basecamp, sometimes not. In those cases, leaving the spare behind isn't really an comfortable option, especially if nobody else I'm wheeling with has 5on4.5 spares (which is becoming more and more common with the guys I wheel with).
Adding a couple pics of my Artec Ultimate Trail Quart Crate! I like it! Holds a Gal of Antifreeze, 6 Qrts Motor Oil, a Quart of Gear Oil and some Brake Fluid...Holds everything in nice and tight! Comes bare metal and I just rattlecanned.
Got my 2' Mac's Veratie Tracks and going to mount them front and rear to help strap stuff down. Just need to get some nutserts to help hold em into the tub (especially in the back, I could get nuts under the front ones)
