I'm kind of wondering if something like the Olympic Rack might be a good temporary solution until I no longer have to stick the spare inside my rig. Couple hundred bones until I get tire carrier and then could resell for some of that back. Tire could still go on floor, could strap other stuff to rack... might be a temporary option.

And I kind of like the Synergy once, but I think the rollbar clamps would F' up my Viking top...

I could get the basket only and try to fab up a mount of some kind (not really a strength of mine).

I had one of those, is pretty cool but the 35" spare tire will not slide under it, unless deflated and then it's still a struggle. Kinda heavy too, they are nice for longer trips. If you go for one of those try to find one made out of aluminum.

Here's what I did for storage on my last wheeling trip. I had a hitch rack that I bought from Harbor Freight for $59.99 lying around in the garage. All I did to mount it was purchase a piece of aluminum "angle iron" from Lowe's for about $10.00. I attached the aluminum to the factory cage with 2.5" exhaust clamps. Then I just bolted the hitch rack to the aluminum. It offered a ton of storage and the tire still fit beneath it and it's easily removable. I love the look of those other racks you posted pics of but my redneck version will work in a pinch:

Even that Harbor Freight one is $100 bones now (on sale from $130) -

I'd also want something that isn't crazy hard to remove in the unlikely event I wanted to get my spare out, which honestly has never happened... 1 blown bead that we were able to reseat and I carry a puncture repair kit that I've had to use on the street before. A sliced sidewall would be a crappy end of my day if I wasn't carrying a spare.

I may stick my spare this evening in there and see what my options are for height... My ActionPackers and my Quart Crate will be here this week, so I'll get a better Idea of what I'm working with for space.

I picked up an "extra" 8 gal Action Packer today at the local ACE (so I'll have 2x8's and a 24). It actually is pretty small. I think I'd be able to put the 24 on the floor lengthwise behind the Co2, then the 2x8's on top and everything strapped down (might be easier with the Swag mount for the 24gal) and then the Spare mounted upright behind the Driver Seat. We'll see how everything fits once I get other 2 packers later this week.

Quite a bit of space back there actually with the 24Gal and 8 Gal and the spare. Now I just need to decide if I need a Swag Baja Box to mount the 24 and then strap the 8Gal on top...

I like the idea of them as well...execution is maybe another thing... I'm still trying to decide if I want to get a couple of those mounts or a interior Cargo Rack to go over the spare (if I mount flat in the tub)...about the same coin, I just need to figure out how I want to store my junk. I'm considering moving the Co2 also, but not 100% sure where yet.

Figure I can't afford any of the expensive stuff I want to do, so I can obsess over the little crap like this.

I have another month before Johnson Valley trip, so will have time to figure it all out.

The synergy rack would mount low enough to clear the Rampage top if you take a good look at it. The one you posted is mounted High on those tubes on a LJ. Which has a different style cage.

I like the synergy cargo rack my self. But , I also like the spare upright behind the driver seat. Then you have to figure out how to secure it to the cage or floor.

Use a good heavy duty ratchet strap and some good anchors on the floor.
Done that with my little Jeep while wheelin in JV

I have the Mac's Versatie track up on the side rails...they make a nice tie down point and I've strapped the tire vertically there also without too much issue. Can see in some of the pics above.

But Damn $500-$600 bones for the complete kit... I mean it might be a great basket, but that's 2/3's a set of Beadlocks or more than 1/2 a new PSC Steering setup.

Yep, Didn't say it was cheap. Just that it was pimp.

I say lay it flat and strap the rest on top of it. Then add the rack money to the beadlock fund. Or some PSC steering.

I agree ... and I think eventually if I piss and moan enough MrBlaine is someday going to finish/release the Tub Mounted tire carrier and it will be a non-issue as I can stick the spare back outside the rig (if I so choose).

I bet everyone is getting tired of me posting pics of the inside of my rig... Here is the Spare flat, with the 24Gal, and (2) 8 Gal Action Packers and the Artec Ultimate Trail Quart Case (yet empty, paint drying).

I think I'm going to go over to Home Depot this weekend and see about picking up stuff to make an inexpensive Platform to strap over the top of the Spare, then strap the Action Packers on top of that. Need to make it semi removable, so won't be as nice as some of the permanent platform/boxs I've seen guys on here build.

I don't think I need the 24 Gal Box when I'm wheeling. I think the (2) 8's would be enough with the room inside the Spare, behind the seats on the floor, etc.
