I'd buy your A to Z rockers but the distance is a killer...

Just got off the phone, they are going to a "good home" locally to a club member for his Rubi, replacing the Diamond Plate Rubi Rocker things with something more "real"...

Thanks...at this point I have some time, just not the parts I need to complete the work...I can dream to have the stuff I need by Next weekend and a full free day of no kids/wife to work, but I'm not holding my breathe, only so much in my control when it comes to that

Feels like I do more talking to myself on this thread than anything else, but maybe it's somewhat cathartic...

One more quick update...more future build plans than any real work (still waiting on parts ), but I removed my Fender Flares (along with the rockers and cleaned everything up...) Sold the Rockers and they will be gone on Saturday.

I also decided that I'm going right to an outboard shock setup in the rear, instead of one set of shocks and then just another, I might as well do the right thing up front. I've spent enough time "re-doing" stuff.

Now I just have to figure out which Shocks I'm going to use in the back when I get the outboarding done (I plan on getting some "help" with the process). I am going Rancho's up front, so likely also going to do the Rancho's in the back. These are the 2 models that Mudb8 mentioned earlier in the thread. Talking to Blaine the other night, he mentioned that the Ford Shock towers that he's used before might take some creativity with the larger bodied Rancho shocks.

Here, you are getting rif of your rockers today

So you are finally looking at the shocks as something that is supposed to be right the first time. It is like Jerry's custom title says "Do it right the first time or not at all." I do like yours, but it reminds me of a thread that was posted by a girl, and the fact that she is 18 makes it a little pedo-ish for you, so I think I know what it really means.

I have heard a lot of people talk about the ford shock towers too. I know Imped runs them. I think Blaine measured them to be 1/4" thick iirc. That is thicker than the frame. As for the shocks, you could run remote reservoirs. I know Idaho-Jeep loves his.

I only understood part of those whole 2nd paragraph, but OK...I don't venture into GD or WGD all that much

And it's not Saturday here for almost 3 more hours.

I just wish someone would tell me magically what shocks to run in the back...I guess they don't HAVE to be Rancho, but for the sake of consistency I'd kind of like all 4 to be of similar brand/model/type. But since the front Rancho's are still sitting on the floor waiting for the axle to be fished to install, I'm not technically tied to them. I don't really want to spend $1000 or more on shocks, so the ~$100/ea Rancho ones seemed like a good compromise (and I've heard good things from some of the guys on here)

I am pretty much just as lost as you are for the rear shocks. I understand what you mean by matching shocks, and whole price thing.

Have you been able to take measurements? Just rough estimations for what size shocks you are going to need.

From my understanding, you have to measure from where the mounts are on the axle and frame with the axle against the bump stop. That would be the compressed length. You then get the shock travel by allowing the suspension to droop as much as you can (or will allow with limiting straps) to get the amount of travel.

Luckrider is pretty much right. Fully stuffed should be your compressed length (maybe ~1/2" longer) and fully dropped is your extended length (or as close to that as you can find)

And how long are your front uppers? I had to extend mine to a ridiculous length it seemed...

I outboarded my rear with the TNT kit, and did the front with the ford towers. I'm running the rs9000's and have no problems. I love my shocks. The fact that the ride is adjustable is awesome. Your suspension and tire size will dictate your shock length. For the price, I don't think you could buy a better shock.

Does it matter if the rig is at normal "ride height" or not? I have the whole rig in stands and I'm nowhere near ride height anywhere right this second. Also how do I measure where there are no brackets? I mean I just have the stock brackets and mounts, those are getting lopped off the bottom and some kind of unknown ones fabricated and the the new outboarded shock towers... So any measurements I would take now would be to basically imaginary positions, no???
