SO..... where to begin.

I knew i shouldnt have waited this long to update this thread or i would forget minor details.

The big ones to add...

I sold the dana 30 that i had, Bought myself a miller 211, and decided to try my hand at fabricating.

I found a gentleman in Georgia who had a hp 44 in his Comanche. with and arb and 4.56's, He claimed it was a dynatrac axle from before they offered the high clearance housings. Swore up and down it was, and go figure, i get down there and he cant find the receipt for it. Long story short, i took his Comanche out for a ride, ops checked the locker. It works, and then we pulled it into his backyard, put it on some sketchy jack stands on soft ground and started doing work to pull the axle and load it into a jetta and head back to charleston. (ratm seen commenting on this thread went along with me for the day to get dirty and provide backup if **** got weird)

So we get the axle home, and upon further inspection. which i anticipated only having to reweld the track bar mount from what looked like a ****ty trail weld. turned into hours of cutting and grinding...

pics to explain..

shat weld repair..

coil bucket looked superb too...

so i decided to cut it all off. every bracket/brace and gusset. and start from scratch.. It turned into quite the learning process.

i bought some combo brackets from ballistic fab for tj/xj coil buckets.

got them as close as i could to stock width, but the inner c's were set to stock width and these brackets were so big on the base the only option was to move the spring in about .5" total compared to stock. (hindsight i wish i had just spent 400$ for the currie setup that i didn't learn about until later. Regardless i was able to customize this slightly to add a little bit more length to the front end, moving the axle forward about 1.5" total over stock thanks to my tnt y link setup.

i centered the spring over the axle.

heres a better image of the combo brackets, to give you an idea. pucks added for balance*

now... to offset the trash talking i did about the condition of the axle when i bought it.

It did already have an arb, 4.56's chromoly shafts, wj knuckles, and in the wj knuckle setup, was more than just the standard setup. The previous owner had a knuckle from the LHD wj shipped to him so that they both had the upper arms. seen here, on the passenger side.

However, in lhd grand cherokees. that little arm is on the drivers side...

SOOO, get both knuckles with the high arms.

and then ream those high arms out for a tie rod flip, and you end up with.... tada!!!Uber high steer!

also, i checked the tubes, and they were .25 wall, but then their was another tube within it implying someone clearly sleaved it for a thicker .50" wall

so thats good to know. 3" tube @ .50

so... On these wj knuckes, you need spacers. (jks makes some premade and better shape to weld onto the knuckle, however. the general consensus online is that they are still a little to thin, so i got some made of .25" steel and just welded where i could, 3 stitches on them spaced evenly seemed just fine, (some people said they dont even weld them)

once they are welded, know that you just welded two different metals together, and they will cool at different rates. SO..... What i did to ensure good penetration was throw the knuckles in my oven, and get them nice and hot, then brought them outside, tossed it on the bench on top of a welding blanket, welded my spacer to it, then wrapped it like little baby jesus to trap in the heat and let them cool down as slow as possible to prevent weld separation.

I decided the axle needed a little touch of custom color, so i decided to paint the knuckles and diff cover with my left over paint from when i did the notch custom flares.
