String's 03 TJ Build

I picked up a 2003 TJ in June of 2011. It had a 4.0, NV3550, blown dana 35 rear and 3.07 gears. I gave the guy what he owed on it and drove it home in front wheel drive.

Instead of wasting the money on the D35 I picked up a low mileage Ford 8.8 with 4.10's and ordered a maddog bracket kit. I wasnt planning to lift it but RC had a sale on their 2.5" kit so it was ordered along with trailgear rocker guards. New fender flares and a set of used 32" BFG allterrains rounded out the list.

I regeared the dana 30 (fun learning experience) to match the 8.8, painted up some things, changed the fluids, bolted the parts on and put it on the road. I ran it this way for the rest of 2011 and just enjoyed it.

For 2012 I picked up a set of 33x10.50 KM2's on 15in ion wheels for a song.

A deer decided it didn't like my stock bumper so I took the insurance check and bought a trail gear front bumper to take the place of the stock one. I decided to build my own rear bumper using all 1/4" steel. I fabbed in a 2in. receive to use as a recovery point and so I had the option to tow.

Engo had a sale on their 9k winch that I couldn't pass up so it found its way onto the front of my jeep. Now that I was fairly set in the armor and recovery department I started to wheel more and more.

After a while I got tired of the TJ riding like a pogo stick so I ordered a set of bilstein's for the front along with the proper bumpstops to keep them from blowing out.

While I was playing around with the front I installed a Currie Antirock. I love how it controls body roll and stability why'll still allowing it to flex. It's one of my favorite mods to date.

I still hate the rear. I don't like how it handles or transfers power to the ground. Ill be addressing that later on in the build.

I was getting tired of getting high centered so I decided a tummy tuck was in order. To go with it I picked up a np241 out of an 03 rubi.

I decided to build a crossmember style mount with a separate skidplate for ease of maintenance. The pics of the mount were from before it was finished, I added much more gusseting. Adams driveshaft built a set of driveshafts for me, I cant say anything but good things about those guys and their product. When all was said and done I got around 19in. of clearance at the skid.

Why'll doing some crawling I took a bad line and dropped onto my tierod which became an instant rainbow! I straightened it enough to get home and ordered a v8 ZJ set up, as well as an aussie locker and a riddler cover for the dana 30 when I got home. A Genright steering box skid also fell into my lap!

I found one more decent pic of the tummy tuck.

I wheeled like this pretty much trouble free and really enjoyed the jeep. It's amazing how far a front locker and tummy tuck will take you.

This brings me up to present day. As I continue to build and wheel I will keep you all posted on the progress
