in other news my sub box is almost done. to put it frankly, its a complete piece of ****. but its seems to be pretty strong, its got 25 screws in it! and an entire tube of liquid nail. i offset the sub slightly on accident. i set the templet down on the wood and walked away and came back a couple hours later and forgot i hadnt measured it and it looked straight from the angle i was at. i have enough lumber to make a new box if i want to. i just gotta decide if its worth it. we'll see though. my cuts were not perfect so ive been using GreatStuff as a filler and insulator to said gaps. once it sets up its pretty thick and stiff so im happy with how its going to hold. tomorrow will bring final sanding and mounting the sub, and i'll probably get started on ripping the seat apart.

Spyder6, Awesome Jeep and thanks for the photo essay concerning your upgrades. Great stuff! The picture in the Lowes parking lot is great! I just got a Sport model with Rubi wheels (my first Jeep). Me and all my friends love it and I've been feeling on top of the world cruising around with it especially with the top down and doors off but today I met a fellow Jeeper KGD2406. He's got one nice Jeep! He's got lift's on his and much upgrades and that's the first time I felt inferior about mine! LOL I mean when you compare them mine looks like a toy. Mine's still great in it's own right but I have to remember never to park next to one of these upgraded monsters! Jeep on!

i got done with my box today and put it in the seat. id like to point out that no one said that you had to cut 2 large chunks out of the 2/8th thick plate the latch bracket is made out of for the box to fit properly. i also moved my amp to the inside of my console where the factory sub formally was to clean things up further. i dont have any pictures of the box in construction because you can get those from SirGCal's website (www.sirgcal.com) and my box looks REALLY crappy and i dont want to show everyone my poor woodworking skills. everything sounds and works great though. the Pioneer sub is considerably more tight than the alpine i was running, but it dosnt make the same volume punch that the big Alpine R-type sub i was running did. there were injuries sustained in this build. i ****ed up my wrist and got several cuts on my hands. everything has turned out great.

for those wondering how heavy the seat is with 3/4" MDF. it is HEAVY. id estimate the seat weighs about 80-100 lbs. its hard to pick it up off the ground and put it in the rear end.

another interesting story of all this was i was zipping the fabric back around the seat and the zipper head literally broke in half. really weird. i paced around for about a half hour trying to figure out what to do. i really didnt wan to have to remove the fabric from around the seat and have a new zipper track stitched on so that was out. i ended up stealing a zipper from an old duffle bag that had the same YKK size. i "southern engineered" the zipper track on the fabric and got the new head on and it works fine. you can see the zipper head in one of the lower pictures

sorry for poor picture quality, these were all taken with my phone.

Looks Awesome! I have thought about doing this, but I may just end up removing the seat and making a cover for the entire back so I have more room for tools and such.

the whole point for me on doing this project was to regain the utility space that i lost by upgrading my sound system. it was also a big concern to me for someone seeing the equipment i had and the weatherproofness that everything was. having the sub exposed behind the seat let rain be an issue and i was always concerned about water or dampness getting on the amp. now both are up and out of the way and protected.

and i can roll my seat forward and load crap in the back, OR finally be able to take my dog with me again. i unfortunately live 80 miles from my dog though

its much more precise than the alpine type R i had in the other box, not as loud though which i would relate to the fact its firing at the floor instead of into the back of my seat towards the dash. i left the box empty, though i could always polyfill it later if i wanted to.

im really enjoying the box. im so happy i have all the space back. it made me so angry that i couldnt take my dog with me anywhere and if i was forced to i had to lay blankets ontop of my amp and remove the sub so he could sit ontop of them and not damage them.

well worth the blood sweat and tears.

Awesome rig man.

I have a question, what do you guys do with your rear sway bar?

In the xj's we just take em off, because we have leafs.

i kept mine, i installed longer links. i couldnt live without my sway bars, i drive too aggressively. im actually going to pick up the ORO swaybar that is stiffer than stock at somepoint. on-road drivability is a must for me, i prefer it over offroad capability. it is my DD afterall

You definitely have an awesome Jeep. I don't have one yet, but I'm currently in the market. What you've done to yours is a lot of what I want to do when I get one. If only I had enough money...

Well, this thread is about to Transition into a multiple rig build up.

My brother on saturday, purchased a Black 1998 Cherokee Classic with 81k on the clock. 1 Owner. never offroaded. HPD30 and 8.25. we nabbed it from the dealer for $300 under Blue Book. idiots... As a little back story, my brother tried to order a 2003 Rubicon at the end of the build year before they made the Rubicon a production model. his order request was denied and he went a different rout. he is now getting back into the swing of things with this.

We're going to pick up the Cherokee tomorrow afternoon and bring it home. Pictures will follow. All of its progress will be posted in this thread alongside my Jeep.

So far the current mod list that is going to get done to it first are:

*Rubicon Express 4.5" Superflex lift
-Adjustable lower control arms
-Advanced Adaptors SYE and Tom Wood's XC shaft.

*Hand-me-down BFGoodrich All Terrain 33x11.50x17's

*Mickey Thompson 17x9 rims

*IPF Lenses & Fatboys

*Repainted to Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl (Low Priority. Want to do it - Paint is ok, but 10 years old)

Why not create his own build thread?
