Today at work made a base for the hi-lift. They always are tipping over and rocking around so I made this base that bolt to the hi-lift to give it a bigger foot.
![]() ![]() Last night I also go a little work done on the jeep. Just tidying up some wires and such but I also got some interior lights installed. ![]() I also Finished the other amo box speaker box and got it all wired up. Sounds good too. The ups guy also showed up to my garage with a pair of RE 4" leaf springs with bushings. ![]() That means i have more work to do on my friends 94 yj, on Friday we will be swapping in another Dana 30 but with 4:10's in it to mach the rear 8.8 we put in not to to long ago.

Well I just got back form a long weekend of wheeling and working on jeeps.
But just before I left Sat morning, Friday evening My buddy and I swapped The 4.10 D30 and new springs into his 94yj. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Oblonged hole Due to previous owner using 1/2" bolts instead of 9/16 ![]() ![]() ![]() All in all not to bad. I think I started about 4:30 and worked by myself until my friend got off of work and then got it finished around 10:30. I also made some washers to weld onto the spring hangers and tighten up those oblonged holes. I also made some new shackles to get rid of those ugly lift shackles. It also took a bit longer since we had to take the knuckles off the old axel sine they already had the go-for it tire rod flip inserts in them.

Wow So I have been super buys with work school (failing calculus) and jeep.
So Sat and Sunday I was out at the Badlands OffRoad park in Attica IN with JGW. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f58/badands-jgw-2009-07-11-a-815848/ So ends up I did a lil damage over the weekend. ![]() That engine skid is not supposed to be bent that way it actually supposed to be bent a hair the other way. But all is good it did its job and saved my transmission housing. It ends up the skid failed because the welds on the 1/2" support bars cracked all the way through. On Monday I went to go change my rear DS rear position u-joint due to some play and it ends up I twisted the CV section of it. ![]() ![]() It also ends up that the rear u-joint flange has opened up a bit on the one side. I am able to push the bearing cap through with my finger. So I took out the new spare and changed it. ![]()

Well last night I decided to take the yoke off my Gm 10bolt front axle from an 88 full size blazer. It ends up that it is a 1310 pinion yoke and has a 30 spline count. (same spline count as 8.8 pinion yoke) The OD where the pinion seal rest on the yoke of the the GM yoke has about a 1/8" inch bigger diameter that the 8.8 yoke.
Today fixed my driveshaft with a front Cherokee DS CV yoke. The hole DS cost me just under $20 form the Junk Yard. ![]() ![]() I also decided to mess around with the 8.8 pinion yoke. The OD of the GM seal and the 8.8 seal seemed to be about the same at 2.75". I believe that if I were to buy a new pinion seal for the GM yoke the Seal would fit in the 8.8 and would allow the GM yoke to fit and seal in the 8.8. Also the height of the yoke is the same as the ford flange set up so using the GM yoke would not affect DS length. One Con to using this yoke is that it uses straps to hold in the u-joint rather than u-bolts like some other yokes. I decided to try out my 1330 yoke from an early 90's ford Bronco (At some time the bronco was switched to the flange style yoke so just look under a few broncos and see what ya find). This yoke is a 30spline yoke and also uses u-bolts to hold down the u-joint. The only problem for me is that I still have to use a 1310 1330 conversion joint. The height of this yoke is also just about 1/8" less than the 8.8 flange style yoke. This worked out in my favor since I needed a little bit more space there. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Today I also picked my self a Cherokee D44 with a 3.55 gear ratio. Came form an 1987 Cherokee.
![]() I also got a bandsaw for free. The bearing on one of the wheels went out so I just have to get a new bearing and I have myself a free saw. ![]()

Well I ended up finding some bearing for the saw at work and got it up and running. It is defiantly nice to have in the garage.
![]() I got some new NGK spark pugs and tranny mount from rockauto.com the tranny mount was about $9 and plugs were 1.75 each. Thursday night I also cleaned out my clutch on my Chicago electric winch. The mud from last weekend might just have had something to do with it. Anyways i took it all apart and cleaned it all up and it all good as new. ![]() ![]() My new exhaust manifold also came in on Thursday. It is 304 stainless I have the notorious crack in the y pipes on the exhaust manifold that is in there now. ![]() Friday I made a couple block off plates to use when doing the one piece Cherokee or tj axle shaft swap. They are 304 stainless .140 thick. If anyone wants one hit me up I have an extra one. ![]()

I Went wheeling Saturday and spent the night and headed back home on Sunday. I went to Badlands ORV park in Attica IN with Twisted Off-Roaders out of portage Indiana. They were holding their 3rd annual Bender run. 100% of the profits they made went to charity.
I woke up a bit late but still went down anyways. About half way through the day I seen some white smoke from under the hood and low and behold 4 of the 6 bolts that hold the radiator to the grill must have vibrated off in the last couple of months. The radiator swung back just enough to hits the fan and break about 4 tubes in the radiator. So I got towed back to camp and then sat shotgun with Bob from twisted off roaders in his sweet CJ. Anyways I had my friend come down later that night and bring my extra radiator down so I could get back home Sunday morning. All went well and I got my jeep back home. http://s175.photobucket.com/albums/w122/aaronc88/badlands%207-18-09/ ![]() ![]() o yeah I also won a few prizes at the raffle. warn recovery ![]() smittybuilt steering box guard ![]() Also a couple shirts and a Gift certificate for Drive terrain specialties.

He doesn't give his jeep much love this time of year......school gets in the way.
I would think he'd have some cool shots of it out in the Colorado Rockies though.... |

I dont have all of my spare parts near me nor a garage to fix anything and a limited number of tools. The jeeps did make the 1000 mile drive out here without any problems though. I will see about getting a job next semester then maybe I can do some light wheeling out here. Thanks for following my post!

they are aftermarket Bestop aqua sports to be exact. They are really nice but they do fade to a purplish fairly quickly, and they do not like sharp objects the least bit.

I really like those u bolt flip spring holders, I have been looking for a couple sets to use in my axle swap, but I don"t want to spend $100 plus on a pair. How did you fab them up and are you interested in making two more pair?

I drove by my house at lunch today and noticed a big box stuffed in my mailbox. I though "What the heck is that?" Neither me or the wife had ordered anything, so I had no idea what it was.
I pulled out the box, saw your name on the box and had a pretty good guess what it was...u-bolt flip kit. I opened the box and I was right! Thanks alot man, what do I owe ya? PS....how was the flight back...or should I ask, did you ever get a flight back? |
