I bet that makes a great welder for you Bill. Lincoln makes very good products and have for years. 180 amps is plenty for welding everything you'll encounter on the Jeep too.

Thanks Jim, I'm hoping so… I had a bit of remorse when I bought it, kind of wished I would have got the Miller 180, but I'm here now!

Today was spent with a sick kid, not to mention that I think I am sick too. After watching Hop (for the 8th time this weekend!), I loaded him up and went to the nearest welding store. I found a welding cart that I really liked… well, until she told me that it was $150!!! I ended up getting a price on a cylinder and I bought an extension cable--25' for $75. I probably could have saved some money if I would have bought it online, but I want to weld something!!! I went to Harbor Freight and spent $60 on a welding cart. I figure I couldn't build one for that cheap, so…

(That pic reminds me that I need to clean my garage!!!)

It was kind of cool because when I got it home, my little guy helped me put it together. He is gonna be a wrencher when he gets older!!!

Anyway… off to nap!!!

OK, I couldn't help it, had to burn something… my first bead…

Wow, it's so nice using a decent welder!!! Even with flux core, it burns so smooth in comparison to my cheap-o-welder!!!

Well, nothing Jeep related to report, but a little maintenance on my truck. Those who have a 2002-2006 GM product know about the faulty stepper motors in the gauges… I replaced one about two years ago, not heeding the advice of the ebay seller I purchased the one motor from, suggesting I should replace them all while I was in the dash… so this time I replaced the rest…

White motors-BAD (except for the one in the middle), Black motors-GOOD!!!

Wooo hooo, it's been a while, but I finally got some time. I started welding up the buckets today…

I may just get the 8.8 in the Jeep before summer…

Just had to weld didn't you?

I knew you couldn't stay away from it very long!

That is Artec Industries way of securing the rear coil springs to the rear axle. Slip the coil of that center piece, then bolt a plate over it, so if it over extends, the spring won't just pop off.

Sitting here this morning, it dawned on me that I probably should have welded in the nut before welding the top plate to the cylinder… I guess I'll figure something out…

Cut it off, weld the nut, and weld it back on.

A rule I learned real quick: Leave it tacked until she's ready for paint.

LOL, Thanks Imped.

Yeah, Jim, that's what I get for wanting to weld so bad!!! I might have some time today to fix it, we will see.

OK, I had plenty of room to get the gun in and weld the nut…

Day two of welding the truss and here it is…

I also cut off the wings for the abs sensor and covered it up…

I still have to weld on the coil perches and the mount for the upper tri-link… AND some clean up and paint… maybe next weekend, this is all the time I got for now.
