Went to Frank Reins Park in Patterson today… Lead the group… big mistake, I got stuck a couple times… I hate picking lines!!! I tried to idle up this and started to slip, so as I backed down, I slipped into the rut… it tore off my muffler… the first casualty of the day...

When I got stuck this time, I backed into that bolder…

And sometime during my adventures, I did this… it was folded under a bit more, but I pulled on it and viola, good as new!!!

All in all, a great day wheeling!!!

... I guess I'm gonna have to fix that too…….

Nice pictures Bill. You must have some good bolts holding that highlift on for them to not break and bend it like that! The rack must be mounted solid too for it to not have tweeked that as well. Oh and I like the front bumper better after the cut job.

Yeah, Jim, I was thinking I shouldn't have used grade 8 bolts for the highlift... Hind site bein 20/20 and all... today I cut a bit of the tailpipe so it won't hang down as low anymore and I welded the muffler to the y-pipe/cat! It is a little louder now but it won't get hung up and fall off!!!

Oh, and I had a buddy point out, although the bumper looks better now, it would have taken the hit that squashed my fender! He also said that he has made tube fenders in the past (he is the guy who has the JD2 tube bender I used for the tire carrier), so that may be a project for this summer.

While I was under the jeep, I noticed the tranny skid got beat up real good, looks like there is a chip out of the tranny, although it may be old or normal... So I think I may be investing in more underside protection!!! My shock mounts hang down pretty low, so I may end up moving those too!

Also helped a friend with her FJ Cruiser today...

It rode pretty nice on the freeway after the lift!!!

... I guess I'm gonna have to fix that too…….

Well, I've been noticing some heat related engine issues, replaced the radiator cap and it stopped the boiling, still had some heat issues, double checked fluid level, had to add a quart or so, haven't had any issues since, but ordered a PSC hood louver to add some flair and draw some heat out of the engine bay… quick shipping except it was for 97-02… so waiting on exchange…

... I guess I'm gonna have to fix that too…….

Bill what's your friend think of the FJ? I like them and have thought that I might like to have one at some point.

On that heat issue. Are the fins on the radiator clean? I've had some problems with that in the past.

She loves the fj!!! She is like one of us with our jeeps! She just put some bigger tires on it--285's... Now she wants to go wheelin. Anyway, I actually like driving it. Strong engine, nice tranny, tight steering! Only issue is the blind spots, but you can see fine if you use your mirrors and actually turn you head and look... . I don't like the rear door, a little tight getting in and out of the back. The JKU is much easier to get into, and the only issue I have with ours is power, buta really, it works just fine the way it is. It would be head and shoulders ahead of the FJ in every category if they put the diesel/8speed combo in it!!!

I'm gonna have to check the radiator fins today, it was in the high 80's yesterday and the temp reading went up above 210 on a 40 minute freeway ride... I just don't get it, my Chevy 1500hd (6.0/4L80E) stays constantly below 210, pulling my boat with the a/c on!

Still waiting on the louvers...

... I guess I'm gonna have to fix that too…….

Woooo hooooo, it was like Christmas in June today!!! I ordered 4 differant things from 4 differant vendors and everything came today!!!

I couldn't wait, not to mention I did t want to wait because tomorrow is going to be over 100 degrees here, so I started on the Poison Spyder hood louver...

No turning back now...

I thought I'd use the tape for cutting guide...

That worked ok, I started with an angle grinder with a cut off wheel, but my round edged became square real quick when it got ahead of me. I tried a jig saw with a metal blade, but that was worse. I ended up going back to the angle grinder, but was more careful to cut slowly!!!

I had to go back over the cut edges with a flap disc! I painted the top and the bottom... Two reasons, to paint the no longer painted surface, and so the yellow wouldn't show through the louvers.

And here is the end product...

I'm done, it's dark, so no pics on the jeep, I'll get one tomorrow. I like it!

... I guess I'm gonna have to fix that too…….

Hood really turned out great. That's gotta help but I think you've got something else going on too, might be wrong and would not be the first time though.

I could deal with the blind spoys on the FJ. I use my mirrors allot. It really amazes me where people don't look when they're driving! I watch people coming up to an intersection, even if I have the right of way, if they haven't turned their head to look at me I'm on the brakes. That saved me from t-boning someone just the other day and I was at 60mph. Most likely they'd not have lived through that and maybe me either. I'm sure you see all kinds of things in your profession.

Yeah, riding a motorcycle as long as I have, I don't trust mirrors much anyway... Head on a swivel!

And here is a pic from this morning...

And as you can see, I had an early morning project...

I hate that tree!!! Ugly, smells, overgrown, in the way of my rv pad...neighbor thinks its his even though 90% of it is on my side... Well, I got the ok to chop it down, but it's over 85 degrees, and I plan to go to the dump and spend the rest of the day inside!!!

... I guess I'm gonna have to fix that too…….

Oh, Jim, I checked the radiator like you suggested. The fins look good, I washed it out though, and it took awhile to get clean water out the other side, tons of dirt and grime... And bugs!!! hopefully that will help some too!

... I guess I'm gonna have to fix that too…….

Sounds like the fins were clogged up. I bet it runs cooler now.

It's still running weird!!! Temp was fine on on freeway, over 100 degrees, a/c on, stop and go traffic because of a crash. About ten miles past the crash I get off the freeway and the temp pegs. I start rolling and it goes back down. Weird!!!!

... I guess I'm gonna have to fix that too…….
