The TJ faired pretty well looks to me like. Gas tank location is one of the worst things about a short wheelbase rig.
Seems if you try to tuck it up enough to really do good then you give up capacity. Or you build a skid that'll take the abuse and it's heavyyyyyyy.
Carnage is just part of the deal Bill.

Yep bring the kids up right, in all ways my friend. Hats off to dads like you that truly do the job too.I know you relate to this. Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

You should have seen my stock skid a few years ago before I replaced it with the Max-Bilt fuel tank skid....the Max-Bilt splits rocks now! I have been driving my CJ all around since Monday and all seems OK except for the side mirror bushing that smashed...

Thanks for the encouragement Jim!!!

No time for fixing the skid problem, I had just a few hours between soccer and Sound of Music… YAY… my wife is making me go, ummmmmm, I mean, I'm taking the wife and kids for her birthday and we are going to enjoy every minute of it…

So anyway, I have been trying to think of a way to fix Jeep's wonderful way to shift the transfer case, since with the body lift I have a horrible clunk whenever the tranny wants to flex. I originally planned to make my own shifter like I have found on the internet, but that seemed too time intensive and too much fab work. So I have decided to go the route of the cable. I got a set of Shift knobs a while ago, but never did anything with the transfer case shifter since I didn't know where I was going, so today I started the modification…

Just a little cut,

Weld, and smooth...

And done...

I got to wait till tomorrow to put it in the Jeep, but I'm glad I got that done. Now I have to order the cable shifter.

... I guess I'm gonna have to fix that too…….

Nice fix on the shifter so far. Cables work great unless something gets inside the sheath and binds things up but where you'll have it all tucked up high that ought to never be a problem.

Man you are one lucky dude. Sound of music. My wife has threatened me with that. But hey Bill look at it this way, she went to Rubicon with you.

The Rubicon Springs are alive with the sound of CJ's (only because I was with you)...

There are a lot worse musicals you could be dragged to...

Sound of Music happens to be one of my favorites...

You're more refined than me Mike.

I did the Novak cable shifter when I did my tummy tuck. It works really well, and is an upgrade that I would recommend.

Sweet, thanks Greg. I'd like to do a tummy tuck at the same time, but will most likely have to do one at a time.

Mike, Jim, yeah, she pointed out that she went with me to the Rubicon on HER birthday, so I couldn't really complain. I enjoyed it. So did the boys!

... I guess I'm gonna have to fix that too…….

Well, threw the shifter together this morning, jumped in the jeep and ran to my parents house to pick up the kids, they spent the night so Jen and I could go to a banquet last night. Here is a quick pic...

I haven't hooked it up yet, I'm waiting to get the cable shifter, hopefully by next week. Mike, the problem with this design is in the linkage. There is a lever that connects the shifter to the engagement lever in the t-case. The lever is connected to the tranny on one side and the body on the other... Ever since the body lift (and the drop bracket) when the engine torques, the floor pan clunks... Probably not a huge deal, but I hate it!!!

... I guess I'm gonna have to fix that too…….

OK, It's done… didn't think I'd have time this weekend, after the 40 hours of overtime this week, but the wife took the boys to the park, and I got to spend about an hour putting it on. Easy, straight forward, I think I may have damaged the threads on one end of the cable, they are aluminum, but it seams snug… we will see. Anyway…

Before:

After:

Next step, steering… maybe in a month or so…

... I guess I'm gonna have to fix that too…….

No TJ news, but got new wheels for the wife's JK… kind of emasculated the poor Rubi with A/T tires… went with Falken Rocky Mountains. We got 90k miles out of 2 sets worth of the BFG M/T's, but the wife hated the noise and they were out of balance more than not.

265/70/17 vs. stock 255/75/17… like half inch wider, but half inch shorter… but I figured since this thing will probably never see mud (until she decides to get something else and it becomes mine ), The size/price was right...

... I guess I'm gonna have to fix that too…….
