Had today off so I made a little headway with the build. Removed my old Dana 44 and installed the new G2 Dana 44 with 4.88 and ARB.

The teardown:

I got a little creative to slide the new axle in. Put 2 stands on my creeper and strapped it down to roll it into place. It worked surprisingly well.

And shes back to sitting on her own weight, with the new wheels and tires of course.

I'm off tomorrow and I've still got a few things to wrap up. I need to source a nipple to put the breather on and also some bolts for the swaybar. The old D44s doesnt quite fit. Also, I need to tighten everything down.

The G2 is advertised as bolt in but its actually a little more involved than that. Like stated the factory hardware doesn't swap over. The factory stuff is metric and the G2 uses standard.

If you upgrade to discs from drums you need to bend your own brake line. Which is 3/16ths for reference. I had to use a 30" for the passenger side and a 20" for the drivers. You could probably get away with a 12" for the drivers side. I installed the Currie rear trackbar brace so I had to route around that.

Thinking of dropping down to 3" springs. I'll live with the way it is for a while. I need to paint the wheel wells to hide the gap a little.

My jeep is pretty light, no rear seat or carpet. The 4" springs only compress a few inches. We'll see what he future brings.

Make a box in the back, throw in some tools and recovery equipment and it may settle a bit.

That's always been an idea. I've had these springs for going on 2 years now. I think they are the heavyweight Currie springs which compound the issue.

After the front axle goes in my build will be done for a while and I'll wheel it as is. Until I put some more money in he bank.

I love having my "trunk" in, instead of the rear seat, but with the kids I don't have the option of leaving the seat out full-time.

I'm sure you're looking forward to getting out on the trails and trying out all this new stuff.

I guess I should have updated. It is no longer with me.. I traded it in.

I felt like it was impractical for me to have anymore. I hadn't been offroad in 3 years, 12MPG was the worst, loud, rough ride, etc. It sucks that I just did all that work to it just to get rid of it, but live and learn I suppose. One day I may end up with a Jeep again, and I will know the exact path I want to take for modifications. But that day probably won't be for a long time, when I have time for that hobby (retirement).

Don't laugh at what I got.. Brand new Nissan Juke Nismo. Has all the amenities I could need. Nav, Turbo, and AWD. I average 25 with mostly city driving if I keep out of boost, 30 on the highway. It's a fun car. People love it or hate it. Anyone that rides in it kinda changes their opinion about it

Happy Jeeping! I'll still lurk around here a little. Can't wait for your trip report to CO later this year.
