Just placed a big order for most everything I need to get this v8 swap party going, fuel pump, o2 sensor, motor mounts, VSS and starter just to name a few. I should (fingers crossed) be tearing the 4.2 out around Christmas break and parting it out unless I can find the source of the knock, so if anyone needs 4.2 parts?? let me know. Im getting alittle nervous about the wiring I need to find some schematics of the two rigs Im using for this swap anything online thats free and downloadable??

So far only $250 out of pocket on this swap. This number reflects jeep parts I have sold to buy these parts. Here is a well documented (sloppy notes) of my expenses since I started. The check marks indicate the parts I have in my possession.

Heck yeah man!! My clutch comes in today and Im hopping to have my motor back in by this weekend. I still need a fuel pump and VSS though. Looks like your swap is going to be smooth with all the parts you have accumulated.

Oh and I'm stressed out about the wiring also, so if find some good sources send em my way please!

So what fuel pump you using?? Since we are both carbed I was wondering, Im using the E2000 ford fuel pump meant for a ford bronco Its an inline pump so I wont have to drop my tank. I have heard lots of good things about it from pirate and here, lots of guys run it with fuel cells and since I've modded my stock tank Im not so sure a 4.0 yj in tank will fit so I hope the ford one works.

The difference for us with the wiring is you are running an obdII Set up so I dont know how much different they will be from each other. Shouldnt be too different if I get any good info i will shootr it your way.

Well after looking at both the schematics from the '93 Dodge truck and the '93 Grand Cherokee for what seems like hours until my eyes bled. The wiring on the Grand Cherokee is way more complicated and confusing compared to the Dodge truck which is way more simple. The pinouts on the connector look to be in different locations. Now remember I have the the truck computer and the Cherokee harness. Plus with the wire harness I do have it looks as if I'm missing the power distribution block, the local junk yard has one but they want $35 for it.
I may just go back to the junkyard and pull the truck harness (at $50) and try to make it work instead of the Cherokee harness. The good news is the color of wires are all the same between the two. The thing that bothers me is the connector, if I'm reading the schematics right it looks as if they are different. Ahh!!! I hate wiring. Back to the drawing board!

I was just going to go with the stock 93 YJ fuel pump. I'v read that they will work just fine but I kinda like the idea of not dropping my tank and using the inline fuel pump. Not sure witch route to take now…

As for the wiring… Man I'm lost. I think I might break down and take it to a family mechanic to get it done.

I think the ford pump is my best option since the dimple mod to the tank I had to shorten my pickup tube to get it to fit. The wiring should be fun I am actually getting excited to learn.
On a side note I just got off the phone with a guy wanting to buy my 4.2 for $300 I'm asking $400 and he is the only caller so far so not to bad he knows about the knock and wants it for all the new accessories I have put on it.

Brown santa just dropped off my motor mounts too.

I just checked and looks like I got the last one at that price.
You might want to check first to see if it will work with your setup.I just did a Google search for a 92 Wrangler vehicle speed sensor and it said it was compatible.

Fuel pump showed up today.

Just waiting on the starter and o2 sensor now. I think I will celebrate by prepping the motor for install..... headed out to the garage I shall return with pics.

So I spent a few hours out in the garage and was able to accomplish something. I started by taking this 80's emmissions crap off of the passenger truck manifold. Sawzall made quick work of it.

A few minutes with a wire wheel on the drill



Bolted up and prepped for paint.

All painted up.


Replacing hoses as I go.

Bolting accessories back on
Im contemplating painting the valve covers. Any suggestions?? Im thinking gunmetal gray??

I finally messed with the vacuum advance on the 4.2 and was able to limit it from advancing it so creating the knock/ping it no longer does it. Still got a slight lifter tick but what 4.2 doesn't. I made a little plate to go over the rod and limit how far it advances the timing. It took a little trial and error at first I limited it too much and it just was gutless then I went to far next. The third time was a charm it has power and no knock I'm as happy as a fat kid in a candy store right now. Hope that guy will keep his word and pay my full asking price since I fixed the knock wished I would have figured this out months ago. I will snap a pic in a few my limit plate is ghetto but works I may throw in a adjustable vacuum advance to sweeten the deal I will just have to order it from summit. off to get a pic of said plate.....

Its a piece of aluminum schluter metal from a tile job I did a few weeks ago. Its ugly but does the job.

Just scored an eastwoods tubing knotcher for $20 bones on craigslist. And sold my 4.2 for $400.
Now the work begins pulling the motor. Hehehe
