Nothing spectacular but I changed out a bad unit bearing for a good one. Quick little job turned into a 2 hr wrestling match with the axle shaft and hub damn thing didnt want to come out.

Made sure I put lots of anti-seize on the splines .

Putting the caliper back on I like to use a c clamp and push the piston in a bit to make it a little easier on me.

All buttoned back up.

I cant quit thinking about putting a torqueflite 727 in it now. I kind of want an auto. Am I crazy? I know it will bolt up to my motor and transfer case , just no real answers on lengths vs length of my current ax15. Im reading that the 727 case is 16" and the ax15 case is 16.5" inches if that is true then are the bellhousings different? I'm sure I can find a used one for the price of getting a new clutch and flywheel for my 5.2. My head wont stop spinning ahh!

Go for it sky. You'll probably regret not doing it during the engine swap you want an auto. Build it the way you want the first time and it'll save you from redoing it later on

Yeah I know. It always comes down to what deal I can find and $$$, like most of us here money dictates what we do. That and I'm trying to get my business growing so I'm saving for that. Im a pretty patient person when it comes to mods on my jeep I take my time and try to find the best deal. Its not my dd so down time doesnt really bother me. I would really like to pick up a 727 and make it work having an auto would be so great for in the rocks, but also I've got a bad acl and all that shifting starts to hurt on a long trail ride.

You'll love crawling with an auto. I rowed gears for like 8 years before getting my last yj with the aw4. Wheeling becomes more about line and wheel focus and much, much, much less about trying to keep it from stalling or over/under revving and shifting gears at the right/wrong time.

I'm back to a manual now, and I did miss driving around town with a stick, but off road? Not so much...

Cheers

Yea Ive grown up driving a manual my whole life even my wife never drove an auto until 2 years ago when we bought our blazer. Every vehicle I've owned has been a manual, I even occasionally push in a fake clutch pedal on my work truck lol. I pull trailers all the time so I prefer a manual over auto but I'm liking the idea mainly because of my knee, I mean I aint getting any younger, its been hurting a lot lately.

I down shifted my daily driver into park coming into the driveway once.

I say stay stick. I keep my jeep inefficient, manly and rough. My daily driver is an efficient, comfortable, sleek BMW.

I try to keep some contrast between my cars. Otherwise I'll end up like a WJ guy.

From my research thus far Im finding out that the 727 is about three inches longer than the ax15 which of course will make my rear driveshaft shorter which I dont want. as much as I may want an auto I still really love the simplicity of my manual. Im still keeping my eyes peeled for a 727.

How much shorter is the 5.2 compared to the I6? Could always move the engine forward a little

Im not sure if the 5.2 is any shorter and since my rad is 1" closer to the I6 for the cj clip I may be hurting for real estate anyways. I will have to pull out the tape measure tonight and report back.

An AX15 from Dakota popped up on CL for $200. Pull-a-part sells 5.2s for $200. You have me considering this swap too.

Thats what got me, A c-list add for the 5.2 its all the little things that add up $$$. Pull aparts up here want premium dollar for all their parts and I hear of areas having half price days, WTF I wished they did that here.

Thats no good ^^^

Around here 5.2 and 5.9's seem to be everywhere but finding the actual part you need is another question. Plus the JY guys don't have the best social skills so the customer service struggles.
