Welp its midnight and I can't a sleep so I got the valve cover back on and letting it sit till morning so I dont tick off the neighbor's and my wife tehe. I also changed my mechanical advance back to my original weights since the Mr gasket kit I bought was really loose and sloppy on the posts.
Last night when I swapped them on I lost one of the c clip that holds the weight on the post it fell into the oil absorb I had sitting under the jeep. I looked for over a half hour on my hands and knees never could find the damn thing. So today after I changed the new weights for old I thought "let me look one last time".... Walla!! there it was right where I knelt down to look for it. So I put it back and closed the dizzy back up. Pretty eventful day.
I get the day off tomorrow so when I'm not playing mr mom I can sneak out and do a little more on it. I want to make me a new battery tray since my bat is a little on the chubby side.

Well I spent the last two hours in a gas station parking lot with my buddy trying to do a quick rebuild on my carb. It turns out I got a major vacuum leak at the carb adapter (sprayed starting fluid on it and idle went high) that just wouldn't let me get above idle, so every time I gas it, it would die. So my buddy ran to the auto parts store while I unbolted the carb and grabbed some rtv gooped the adapter plate to the intake, gooped the carb to the adapter. Let it sit for a few then fired it up ran great for about a block then cough sputter die.
We took the top of the carb off to see the jets and gave it a few pumps and nothing it apears junk got plugged up in the jets, so we pull the jets blow through them, some gunk comes out, put them back in and it ran for a few minutes again. By this time its getting dark and my batt is getting tired so we just towed it home.

At least I know what I got to do (clean the carb) we figured after taking the valve cover off and some oil getting on the carb to adapter gasket then using degreaser on the motor after I got it back together it just ruined those gaskets and created a vacuum leak. Then when we unbolted the carb and turned it upside down breaking and loose stuff up in the carb bowl it clogged the jets in quick order.

small update I got the carb all rebuilt and back together. finally figured out what my MC2100 carb came on stock, turns out its off of a 68 mustang.... who da thunk it? Anyways its all back together and ready to bolt on Im just having a hell of a time finding just the gasket to go from adapter to intake. I got my adpater through summit racing TRD-#2086 but nobody sells just the gasket and all the monkeys at the auto parts stores cant do anything unless their computer tells them too. ugh sometimes I hate all the research I have to do just to get one little thing to work. Sorry no pics of the carb rebuild it was pretty simple anyone could do it the rebuild kit was $19.99 from Auto Zone so cant beat that price. anyways and hope to be out on the trail soon.

You should be able to use a standard YJ carb gasket from what I can tell about the adapter. You just need the gasket between the manifold and the adapter plate right?

Yep the gasket I had from the kit I bought years ago was a thicker cardboard type gasket was told it was there for heat reduction from the intake. Whether I need it or not is a topic I was curious about. Yes a regular yj carb gasket could work just need to cut the two holes into one oval hole.

Have you checked to see if you're getting enough fuel? Replace the filter? The only thing that i can think of that could make it run rich is if you didn't get the needles back in their little holes.

Yep bypassed the filter and hooked it straight to brand new fuel pump. Still same thing smells rich and runs rich. What needles you speak of air/fuel? Put them back in exactly how they came out three turns out from all the way in. Its got to be something with the carb. im inside helping wife put kids to bed right now so I may not get to work on it till tomorrow. Any help is appreciated

I just have experience with my old carter. There were two needles that go into jets in the lower carb bowl. When we put mine back together we missed one of the needles and it didn't stop the fuel from coming in causing it to run really rich.

Well its definitely a too much fuel problem. I pulled the top of the carb off and the float bowl was empty. I dumped a little gas into the float bowl it floats up and then the gas slowly drains . Its draining into the intake causing it to run real rich. What?? Im confused.

Maybe I should start posting pics of bewbers to get some responses. Haha Anyways since the shenanigans with the carb gasket I figured I should post up some pics to keep it interesting. I started with some gasket making material and a fel pro 60716 gasket.

I traced out the carb spacer onto the gasket.

Then I cut it out with some scissors and razor knife. Then I used some .40 cal spent shell casings to cut out the bolt holes. Just line up the casing and smack it with a hammer. Like butta!

Then I bolted up the carb

somewhere inbetween bolting it all together my camera battery took a crap so I dont have many more pics but you get the idea. She fired right up and idled beautifully so I took it for a late night ride into town. Then I came home and swept out the garage.
