Sub's.
Glad to see ya back on here. Excited about this bro. Have you sourced a motor yet? When you do, let me know and I will go with you to pull it.

I did find some 5.9s on CL for dirt cheap. Its essentially the same swap as the 5.2 and 5.9 share the same block...if you want stupid power that's an option haha. I'm actually considering picking one up myself.

Since I'm having to start over on a new jeep anyways, no reason I couldn't build it from the ground up to handle that....hmmmmm.

Cheers

Yeah I found a 5.2 out in Nampa that the guy just pulled out yesterday its got 140K and he wants 400 for it. I think I could get him to 300-350ish. Its out of a Durango and if he will take lower than 400 im going to try to pick it up monday. Going to keep my eye out though for one with lower miles.

Ya think the 5.9 would be better?? Obviously Bigger, so it sounds like a good idea to me! I would like to have a stupid amount of power.

Have you found a new YJ yet? Iv been looking but nothing has really grabbed my attention.

Haha the 5.2 will be a TON of power. I'm pretty sure that more and more parts need to be beefed up to handle the 5.9...ask Ripper how many things he has blown up in his jeep with his 6.0 haha!

Oh and maybe on the yj hunt. I have one I reeeeally want but I'm 1k short on being able to afford it. I'm hoping I can figure it out...

Cheers

5.9 will be better than the 5.2, makes more torque and has higher output potential. Even if you aren't looking for a high HP monster, he added torque is always nice.

The biggest downfall to building a mopar engine (or anything for that matter) is cost. To make aome serious power you will spend ALOT! Now, the Magnum series engines (5.2, 5.9) are roller engines whereas the older LA series engines (283, 318, 340, 360) were flat tappet. Right of the bat you have upgraded with the magnums. Be cognizant of the heads as they have been known to crack. STAY AWAY FROM THE DAKOTA/DURANGO R/T DRIVETRAINS! there have been many problems with the computers and control systems from the R/Ts. I don't know exactly what it is or if its a simple fix with some open source but for plug and play; steer clear! Keep good oil in them and watch the temp gauge and the stock motor will last forever. A little cam and adjustment of the computer will net you a big power increase. There is alot of info out there on how to make great power from these little motors.

Thanks for the info, Im a total newb when it comes to the whole engine swap and what not. I plan on learning along the way with the help from some friends and JF. As for the 5.9 or 5.2, Im kinda in a fog on which one I want. I have found a 5.2 for 400 with 140K and a 5.9 for 300 with 180K. The miles are high but the price is what im looking for. In your Opinion whats to high of miles?

Can you afford a rebuild? Call my buddy Craig at the Block and Head shop over on Cole. He has built two motors for me in the past. He's a great guy and fair. See what he would charge to rebuild one of those higher mileage motors.

Cheers

So I called and talked to Craig for you, and he said that to rebuild one of the Mopar motors would run about 1200-1500. Food for thought!

Cheers

Found this ad on CL. Check it out.
http://boise.craigslist.org/pts/3973025617.html

He has the 5.9....

Cheers

EDIT: you can try calling these guys too and see what they have, they list a bunch of motors and it's worth a call;
http://boise.craigslist.org/ptd/3999836634.html

and a 5.2 durango motor
http://boise.craigslist.org/ptd/3970064088.html

and another 5.2 for only $250
http://boise.craigslist.org/pts/3923209431.html

Another 5.2 for $250
http://boise.craigslist.org/pts/4015583159.html

And this whole 5.2 GC for $1800...I bet you could buy it, take the motor, part the rest out, and literally pay for your swap with the profits...
http://boise.craigslist.org/pts/4015583159.html

Haha
Cheers

Thanks Man! I have really kicked it in gear to build this thing up.

As for finding a engine... I traveled out with a buddy tonight to look at a 5.2 that was suppose to be in running condition for $225. Good price and I wasn't expecting a diamond but when I pulled up to see a engine that appeared as if somebody pored oil all over I wasn't impressed. Not to mention the dirt/mud and spider webs all over it. The guy said that I just needed to replace this and that and oh don't forget about this... Waste of my time!
So hopefully tomorrow I'm going to look at a 5.9 thats in a Durango and I get to see it run! Ill update as I hunt.
