Second chance xj

This is my second xj bought a 4 door first but always wanted a 2 door found this 96 xj 2 door 5 speed clean with no rust but had a blown head gasket and is two wheel drive so the work begins replaced cylinder head and gasket now running good rounded up a hp30 for the front with 3.55 gears and a 231 t-case also acquired a set of 33x12.5r15 waiting on the 4.5 rc lift kit to show up

Slow progress with Ohio winter weather rc 4.5 lift kit showed up today hopefully I will get a break in the weather to put it on and I'm picking up the front bumper Saturday

Nice a friend did a similar build and it turned out awesome. started with a stock 2wd auto xj and when finished had a 4wd manual xj with a 6in lift and 33's

Thanks. It's hard to find a 4wd xj that's not all rusted out here in Ohio I would rather do the work converting it to 4wd than rust repair

That is a really clean XJ. I really enjoyed my buddy's Jeep. They are great vehicles.

I couldn't agree with you more! I have a 2 door XJ 4x4 and have spent many many many hours cutting out rust. I am now in the middle of replacing the rear cargo pan. If ever you get hung up on your 2WD to 4WD conversion, just take a look at my build thread and it will instantly make you feel better haha! Excited to see where you take this build

I appreciate all comments starting to clean up my axles and I found rust on my front axle near the shock mount my question is can I cut it out and do away with it or does it serve a purpose there is a spot were the coil spring sits I will fix

It's been awhile since my last post after finding a lot of rust on the axles I was going to use I decided to go full-size axles Dana 44 Dana 60 with 4.10 gears after some research ordered all the brackets to make it happen should have all the welding done this weekend and I can finally see it lifted still have alot of work to do but getting there

Finally progress axles cleaned and ready to go get the new brackets welded on

More progress rear leaf springs are built lift shackles installed just picked up the rear axle from the shop with the new brackets welded on now I can get it cleaned up and painted hopefully get it installed with the front axle this weekend
