so I pulled off my tailgate yesterday

so some pics for today...





I think my pinion angle needs to come up a tad, which stinks because that means I gotta spend some money on adjustable uppers, or measure and have some fixed ones made up

*ignore the leaky/wet pinion.... I know its messed up

Your pinion angle is definitely too low.......not sure why you don't already have adjustable uppers.

and I looked under my jeep and stared and stared at those mounts... there just aint enough room


I will probably be getting a set made up at a local reputable shop when they install my gears

I took it off kind of for the fun of it, I personally think it looks cool/ different like that, and I will be running that safari top all summer, so the extra drainage will be greatly appreciated... no more flooded floor boards


it looks kinda baja-esque in my mind

I was also pondering a 8.8 for a while, in which case I would set my pinion angle before I burnt on the brackets, allowing for a proper angle with all stock ca's and trackbar

Same reason for why I took only one door off my XJ....oh wait....thats cause I haven't gotten to the other side

You could probably adjust that pinion angle with cam bolts. By far the cheapest, but at the same time not as great, and you have to slot the holes.. Mine came with cam bolts in the front, and I adjusted the front pinion angle with those, and the rear I adjusted with rustys offroad ruca's.

Just an idea.

True, the 97's have cam bolts up front, I had to keep them set at the stock spec when I added some longer and beefier lca's up front. the aftermarket cam bolts supposedly work a little differently, and most of the time you have to weld them in place so they dont move, something I can do... but I already botched it, so Im kind of thinking I need to fix it the right way, especially since Im looking a a tt in the future


I am considering doing adj lowers and bringing the axle in some, once again not the absolute best way, but my trackbar just kisses the gas tank skid as is.

Regardless of lift height, you'll be rotating the axle pinion higher up than it is in stock form so yes, you'll want the CV bracket. I no longer have a rear track bar so that's not a worry of mine.

And about the 8.8 brackets--that's a good way to do it but you'll appreciate getting rid of the stock control arms when the day comes. Bushings suck.

This is off topic from the convo at the moment. Anyway, in the pics on page 4 are you running a duster with the soft top at the same time? It looks like it but it's kind of hard to tell. If so, how well does that setup work?

Yes, its nice because the soft top seals better than a safari top, plus it looks really clean since theres always a bunch of crap in my bed. Plus you don end up with tons of water in the back, it pools in the duster, which is easy to drain.



In other news I ordered up a set of rear adjustable upper arms he only charged 110 for the set, and is using the same thread size as a johnny joint so I can swap out the bushing for a johnny joint as funds allow. Now I just need a trackbar bracket and than I can actually set my pinion angle
