Im thinking about ordering a DIY beadlock kit sometime and having the local 4x4 shop do them for me. That is if its not super expensive. I am however stuck between actually doing the bead locks or just ordering a set of rim stiffeners. Beadlocks would be more useful but will require more maintenance. Rock rings would also serve a purpose but not as great as beadlocks. Mainly I just like the look of the ring around the rim regardless if its a beadlock ring or rock ring. I just don't which one I want to go with. what y'all think?

Im thinking about these for beadlocks

or these for rock rings

I was thinking about getting rim stiffeners as well. Beadlocks seem too much of a hassle for a DD. Constantly torquing them or airing them up. Ohh and im not sure if beadlocks are legal here in jersey hahah

Thats the main reason Im having second thoughts. I read where plenty of people DD them with out a problem I just don't know. I mean balancing the tire will be the same with either the stiffeners or beadlocks, Id be using BBs. So the only difference would be all those bolts and all that hassle. Idk, Its going to be one of those things Im just going to have to role with. If I dont like it go from there. Here in South Carolina there is no official law stating they are illegal so Id be fine.

Called the 4x4 shop today and asked them about welding on some bead locks. They said if I prep the rims they'd do it for $200 for all 4. So looks like Im just going to go ahead with it. I'd lucky if I get them done before Xmas be we'll see. Need to order the kits, dynabeads and 4 bent valve stems.

I've been thinking about some rim stiffeners. My rims are already bent up good. Might get a set of 10's and weld them on. Bead lock would be nice, I'm like you though. Kind of scared to run them on the street.

yeah same. I still don't know if I want to go through the hassle. Im not necessarily scared about running them on the street. What Im afraid of is if I'll actually keep up with the maintenance and that I don't to come out to the parking lot and one or more tires be flat do to a leak caused by the bead locks. I know that If i keep and eye out on them and make a habit of checking the bolts before and after any wheeling trip, before any long highway trip and just on an occasional bases I'll be fine. Though that still leaves 'if' they leak. Which again gives me a reason to install a OBA system but it might come to be a pain if I have to do to it every other day. Idk I just think if I go with just rim stiffeners I'll regret not going beadlocks. What I most likely will do is go with the beadlocks and try them out. If i don't love them on the road look around for a cheap set of rims and tires for the road and set the beadlocks aside for trail trips.

Good to know thanks! Yeah Ive seen his build, it looks good. I also noticed he's using the same rings I had chosen on the same rims I have so that helps me visualize it.

Got the new shackles on today. Started with the first hole and when I went to sit it down and it just flattened out with no shackle angle. So moved it back a hole and it sat like it should. It sits a little higher then it did before but not too bad. It rides a bit smoother and I've got ton more flex.

Sittin on its own weight:

Went to Gulches last Thursday and Friday for our annual Christmas trip. Had a blast! Didn't do too many trails. Watched some Toyota guys almost break some stuff, then walked up the very trail they were trying. Me and my buddy Chase (cherokeecrawler) realized that we need to come up with some way to keep our shackles from swinging too far forward and bending/breaking our leaves after it almost happened to chase going up TnT rock garden. We were able to winch him up and bring his shackle back before it caused any damage. Here are some pictures.

Where Chase unloaded his leaf pack:
